Small-molecule ambipolar transistors

Toshiki Higashino et al.

Summary: Ambipolar transistor properties have been observed in various small-molecule materials, requiring a small energy gap and specific molecular designs. In addition to energy levels, an inert passivation layer plays an important role. Extraordinary π-electron systems and some donor/acceptor cocrystals also exhibit ambipolar transport.

Manipulation of Crystal Structure by Methylthiolation Enabling Ultrahigh Mobility in a Pyrene-Based Molecular Semiconductor

Kazuo Takimiya et al.

Summary: Control and prediction of crystal structures of molecular semiconductors are challenging, but crucial for rational design of superior molecular semiconductors. Methylthiolation can effectively control the crystal structure of molecular semiconductors, with MT-pyrene showing extremely high mobility and band-like transport characteristics in SC-FET devices.
