The global epidemiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): a systematic review

Zobair M. Younossi et al.

Summary: A comprehensive meta-analysis was conducted to assess the global and regional prevalence, incidence, and mortality of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that the global prevalence of NAFLD is 30% and increasing, highlighting the need for urgent and comprehensive strategies to raise awareness and address NAFLD on local, regional, and global levels.

Effects of Time-Restricted Eating on Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: The TREATY-FLD Randomized Clinical Trial

Xueyun Wei et al.

Summary: A 12-month randomized clinical trial comparing time-restricted eating (TRE) and daily calorie restriction (DCR) among patients with obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) found that TRE did not provide additional benefits for reducing intrahepatic triglyceride (IHTG) content, body fat, and metabolic risk factors compared with DCR. These findings support the importance of caloric intake restriction in the management of NAFLD.

Effect of alternate day fasting combined with aerobic exercise on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A randomized controlled trial

Mark Ezpeleta et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of alternate day fasting (ADF) combined with exercise to fasting alone, or exercise alone, on intrahepatic triglyceride (IHTG) content in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that combining intermittent fasting with exercise is effective for reducing hepatic steatosis in patients with NAFLD but may offer no additional benefit versus fasting alone.

PRISMA2020: An R package and Shiny app for producing PRISMA 2020-compliant flow diagrams, with interactivity for optimised digital transparency and Open Synthesis

Neal R. Haddaway et al.

Summary: We have developed a user-friendly tool for producing PRISMA 2020-compliant flow diagrams for users with coding experience and, importantly, for users without prior experience in coding by making use of Shiny. This free-to-use tool will make it easier to produce clear and PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review flow diagrams. Significantly, users can also produce interactive flow diagrams for the first time, allowing readers of their reviews to smoothly and swiftly explore and navigate to further details of the methods and results of a review.

Effect of 5:2 Fasting Diet on Liver Fat Content in Patients with Type 2 Diabetic with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Yanxin Xiao et al.

Summary: This study found that a 5:2 fasting diet and liraglutide achieved comparable effects in reducing liver fat content in patients with T2DM with NAFLD. Both treatment strategies were safe and effective for glucose control.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet on patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results demonstrate that adhering to the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet can improve anthropometric indices, hepatic steatosis, liver enzymes, triglycerides, and inflammatory biomarkers in NAFLD patients.

Effect of Intermittent Fasting on Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Cong Yin et al.

Summary: Intermittent fasting has been found to be beneficial for weight management and liver enzyme improvement in patients with NAFLD, showing significant differences in weight, BMI, ALT, and AST compared to the control group. However, there were no significant differences in other metabolic parameters such as TG and TC between the two groups. Further studies are needed to assess the long-term feasibility and safety of intermittent fasting.

Cardiometabolic Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Krista A. Varady et al.

Summary: Intermittent fasting can reduce blood pressure, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress, benefiting cardiometabolic health. However, its effects on LDL cholesterol and triglycerides vary. Other health benefits include improved appetite regulation and changes in gut microbiome diversity, but evidence is limited.
