Modelling and Seismic Response Analysis of Non-residential Single-storey Existing Precast Buildings in Italy

Marco Bosio et al.

Summary: This study aims to assess the probabilistic seismic vulnerability of four existing single-story precast buildings designed according to outdated Italian building codes, taking into account the limited knowledge of seismic design and behavior in the past and the evolution of seismic zonation in the Italian territory.

Fragility based evaluation of different code based assessment approaches for the performance estimation of existing buildings

Cigdem Cirak Karakas et al.

Summary: Seismic performance assessment of existing buildings constructed before modern seismic design codes is crucial for earthquake prone countries. This study investigates different assessment methods recommended by seismic codes and compares fragility curves of low- to mid-rise RC structures. The results show that new buildings have significantly higher strength, stiffness, and deformation capacity compared to old buildings. The TBEC-2018 code provides the most conservative capacity estimations. The study also finds that building age is the most influential parameter affecting the fragilities of existing buildings.

PRESSAFE-disp: a method for the fast in-plane seismic assessment of existing precast RC buildings after the Emilia earthquake of May 2012

Marco Bovo et al.

Summary: The existing precast reinforced concrete structures that are not specifically designed against earthquakes are sensitive to seismic demands. A method for a rapid seismic assessment is proposed to evaluate the fragility curves of precast structures. This method can be effectively used for seismic risk assessments in Italian industrial areas and seismic-prone territories in the Mediterranean region.

Analytical fragility curves for masonry school building portfolios in Nepal

Nicola Giordano et al.

Summary: The study highlights the vulnerability of Nepalese school buildings to earthquakes, with most of them built using low-quality unreinforced masonry. It presents fragility curves for three common types of unreinforced masonry, taking into account inter-building, intra-building, and record-to-record variabilities. These fragilities can be used for earthquake risk assessment and intervention prioritization at the country level.
