Synthesis and Evaluation of Eco-Friendly, Ambient-Cured, Geopolymer-Based Bricks Using Industrial By-Products

Subramani Sruthi et al.

Summary: Geopolymer-based sustainable red mud bricks (SRMBs) were produced using industrial by-products and ambient curing. The optimized mix proportion of red mud, fly ash, ground granulated blast furnace slag and alccofine was identified as R45F40G10A05. The SRMBs exhibited high strength, low water absorption, no efflorescence, and a pleasing appearance, making it a suitable alternative to conventional clay burnt bricks.

RSM-based evaluation of mechanical and durability properties of recycled aggregate concrete containing GGBFS and silica fume

Alireza Habibi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the mechanical properties and durability of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) containing GGBFS and Silica Fume (SF) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The results showed that Recycled Aggregate (RA) had a negative effect on the durability properties of concrete at 7 and 28 days, but not at 90 days. Optimal mix designs were obtained based on two specific scenarios to address environmental issues related to concrete production.

Advances on properties of fiber reinforced recycled aggregate concrete: Experiments and models

Jing Xie et al.

Summary: Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) has become a good alternative to natural aggregate concrete (NAC) due to increased sustainability focus, but has drawbacks such as lower strength and higher water absorption compared to NAC. Adding fibers to RAC can improve mechanical properties and durability, with steel fibers showing the best enhancement in mechanical properties. Basalt fibers offer better sustainability. This study aims to inform further research on using fibers to enhance RAC properties.
