Molecular engineering of interplanar spacing via π-conjugated phenothiazine linkages for high-power 2D covalent organic framework batteries

Weiping Li et al.

Summary: By introducing nonplanar heteroaromatic linkages, such as phenothiazine, into two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D-COFs), the packing topology and interplanar distance can be tuned, resulting in a porous 2D-COF with good electroactivity, enlarged d-spacing, and accessibility to interior Li+-interactive sites. This design concept of interlayer engineering provides a new strategy for organic porous energy storage materials.

Mayuresh Khot et al.

Summary: This study introduces the ULPING technique for cost-effective pseudocapacitor electrode manufacturing, incorporating binder-free, green synthesis methods and single-step fabrication. Laser irradiation in ambient conditions forms a CuO/NiO hybrid structure, and the effects of surface morphology and electrochemical surface are analyzed by tuning laser intensity. The results demonstrate the potential of the ULPING technique as a green and simple method for fabricating high-performance pseudocapacitor electrodes.

Solvent-Free and Long-Cycling Garnet-Based Lithium-Metal Batteries

Jiameng Yu et al.

Summary: Solid-state batteries using ceramic solid electrolytes offer improved energy density and safety. Integrating solid electrolytes with electrode materials remains a challenge. This study presents a solvent-free ceramic-based lithium-metal battery with good cycling stability over a wide temperature range, achieved by using an inorganic ternary salt of low eutectic point. The stable performance is attributed to the low melting point, high ionic conductivity, and good thermal/electrochemical stability of the ternary salt system. These findings provide an effective method for fabricating solid-state batteries for practical applications.

Extraordinarily Stable Aqueous Electrochromic Battery Based on Li4Ti5O12 and Hybrid Al3+/Zn2+ Electrolyte

Zhisheng Wu et al.

Summary: Aqueous electrochromic batteries have great potential in various applications, but suffer from poor cycling stability. A new ultrastable electrochromic system composed of lithium titanate (LTO) and Al3+/Zn2+ hybrid electrolyte is presented here, showing excellent redox reaction reversibility and high cycling stabilities in optical contrast and energy storage. The system also exhibits superior electrochromic performances and discharge areal capacity. The robust [TiO6] octahedral frameworks in LTO contribute to the extraordinary cycling stability. This high-performance electrochromic system enables the commercialization of low-cost, high-safety aqueous-based devices and provides design guidance for LTO-related materials used in aqueous-based energy storage devices.
