A survey of identity recognition via data fusion and feature learning

Summary: With the rapid development of the Mobile Internet and the Industrial Internet of Things, there is an urgent need for user and device identity recognition in various applications. Multimodal identity recognition, with the assistance of multimodalities and fusion strategies, can improve the reliability and robustness of recognition. This survey investigates the concepts and limitations of unimodal identity recognition, the motivation and advantages of multimodal identity recognition, and summarizes the recognition technologies and applications via fusion strategies at different levels. Additionally, it discusses the security concerns and future research directions of learning-based identity recognition, enabling researchers to understand the current status of this field and select future research directions.

Assessment of Various Multimodal Fusion Approaches Using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Electro-Optical (EO) Imagery for Vehicle Classification via Neural Networks

Summary: Multimodal fusion approaches combining data from different sensors can improve reasoning and situational awareness similar to humans. This study compares the performance of a six-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) and an 18-layer ResNet architecture for classifying military targets using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and electro-optical (EO) imagery. The results show that the input channel fusion method based on ResNet consistently achieves higher classification accuracy in every scenario.

Data Fusion System for Electric Motors Condition Monitoring: An Innovative Solution

Summary: Electric motors are essential drivers in various processes, and their importance lies in their high efficiency and robustness. However, operating conditions expose electric motors to different stresses that can cause electromechanical damages and lead to irreversible failures and high repair costs if not detected correctly. Damages in motor components also reduce motor efficiency. This article presents recent advances in electric motor condition monitoring, including the development of a proprietary data fusion system (DFS) for automatic fault diagnosis. The DFS combines the analysis of currents, stray magnetic fluxes, and infrared data, measured noninvasively using simple and low-cost sensors. The article demonstrates the capabilities of the developed methodology through results obtained from applying the system to actual machines.
