Effect of {010} crystal facets of Bi2MoO6 and 1D/2D heterostructures for conductometric room temperature NH3 gas sensors

Kaidi Wu et al.

Summary: Pure Bi2MoO6 nanosheets and one-dimensional/two-dimensional (1D/2D) multi-walled CNTs/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route for room-temperature ammonia monitoring. The 0.5 wt% MWCNTs/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites showed the best sensing properties, including low detection limit (157 ppb), high response (Ra/Rg = 44.2 @ 50 ppm), selectivity, reproducibility, and anti-humidity sensing ability. The enhanced gas sensing mechanism was proposed based on the synergetic effect of high-energy crystal facets, modified surface characteristics, and p-n heterojunction.

Bacterial cellulose flakes loaded with Bi2MoO6 nanoparticles and quantum dots for the photodegradation of antibiotic and dye pollutants

Mengying Xu et al.

Summary: Effective strategies are critical to improve charge separation in semiconductor particles for enhancing the photodegradation of organic pollutants. In this study, Bi2MoO6 (BMOMOF) nanoparticles and quantum dots were synthesized from a bismuth-based metal-organic framework (Bi-MOF) precursor. The combination of surface defects, NPs and QDs in BMOMOF improved charge separation and facilitated redox reactions. The BMOMOF photocatalyst was more efficient in degrading widely-used antibiotics and carcinogenic pollutants compared to BMO derived from uncoordinated Bi. Loading BMOMOF on biopolymer bacterial cellulose significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance and facilitated material recovery after water treatment processes.
