Pressure-Induced Emergence of Visible Luminescence in Lead Free Halide Perovskite Cs3Bi2Br9: Effect of Structural Distortion

Debabrata Samanta et al.

Summary: In this study, high pressure effects on Cs3Bi2Br9 halide perovskite were investigated using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence measurements. The sample exhibited photoluminescence in a broad range of 550-900 nm above 1.4 GPa, which was attributed to an isostructural transition. The enhancement in photoluminescence intensity with pressure was found to be driven by an increase in distortion of BiBr6 octahedra. Additionally, electronic band structure calculations indicated that the high pressure phase of the sample is an indirect band gap semiconductor.
