Novel Catalyst Composites of Ni- and Co-Based Nanoparticles Supported on Inorganic Oxides for Fatty Acid Hydrogenations

Ekaterina Mamontova et al.

Summary: In this study, small Ni-based nanoparticles supported on inorganic solid supports were prepared by decomposing organometallic precursors in refluxing ethanol under H-2 atmosphere. The prepared Ni-based nanocomposites showed high efficiency in the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids under solvent-free conditions, with a high selectivity for the hydrogenation of C=C bonds. The influence of the support on the catalytic performance of the nanocomposites was highlighted.

A more efficient synthesis and properties of saturated and unsaturated starch esters

Laura Boetje et al.

Summary: This study presents a series of starch esters synthesized through transesterification reactions catalyzed by TBD in DMSO. By purging the reaction flask with nitrogen, the degree of substitution was increased. Long-chain fatty acids exhibited the most significant increase in DS, while starch esters from unsaturated fatty acids showed lower Tg and higher hydrophobicity compared to pristine starch.

Controlled Oxidation of Cobalt Nanoparticles to Obtain Co/CoO/Co3O4 Composites with Different Co Content

Aleksandr S. Lozhkomoev et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the interaction patterns between electroexplosive Co nanoparticles and air oxygen during heating. The characteristics of Co nanoparticles and composite Co/CoO/Co3O4 nanoparticles formed during oxidation were studied using various analytical techniques. It was found that nanoparticles with similar morphology but different composition can be produced by varying oxidation temperatures. The influence of the composition of composite nanoparticles on their magnetic properties was also demonstrated.

Nickel Nanoparticles Immobilized on Pristine Halloysite: An Outstanding Catalyst for Hydrogenation Processes

Alejandro Perez Alonso et al.

Summary: In this study, nickel nanoparticles immobilized on halloysite-based supports were synthesized and the catalytic performance of these composite materials in hydrogenation reactions was evaluated. It was found that the NiNPs stabilized by quinidine on unfunctionalized halloysite (NiC) exhibited high catalytic activity and selectivity for a wide range of substrates.

Remarkable catalytic activity of polymeric membranes containing gel-trapped palladium nanoparticles for hydrogenation reactions

Melissa Lopez-Viveros et al.

Summary: Polymeric flat-sheet membranes and hollow fibers were prepared via UV photo-initiated polymerization of acrylic acid to efficiently immobilize palladium nanoparticles. The flat sheet membranes were more active than hollow fibers in hydrogenation reactions under mild conditions, achieving high conversions in short reaction times.

Design of Glycerol-Based Solvents for the Immobilization of Palladium Nanocatalysts: A Hydrogenation Study

Alejandro Leal-Duaso et al.

Summary: Twenty-one green solvents, including glycerol-derived ethers, were used for the synthesis and immobilization of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) in catalytic reactions. The choice of solvent allowed tuning of the properties of resulting catalytic systems, and Pd NPs immobilized in glycerol-based solvents showed promising results in hydrogenation and selective semihydrogenation reactions. The influence of solvent properties, particularly viscosity, on reactivity was studied, leading to the identification of the most active catalytic system.
