Zinc oxide nanosheets are synthesized using a simple solvothermal route and decorated with pre-synthesized Ag-Pt nanoparticles to develop a selective ethanol gas sensor that operates at a relatively lower temperature. The characterization of the produced nanostructures is carried out using various techniques to investigate their topography, structure, and elemental composition. The nanostructures are then utilized to fabricate gas sensor devices and evaluate the ethanol gas sensing capabilities, optimizing the synergistic effect of Ag and Pt concentrations in Ag-Pt bimetallic nanoparticles.
Zinc oxide nanosheets were synthesized using a facilesolvothermalroute and decorated with presynthesized Ag-Pt nanoparticles to designa selective ethanol gas sensor working at a relatively lower temperature. The produced nanostructures were engaged via several characterizationtechniques such as field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmissionelectron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopyto investigate the topographical and structural properties as wellas elemental composition. Then, the nanostructures were utilized tofabricate gas sensor devices and deployed to estimate ethanol gassensing capabilities to optimize the synergistic effect of Ag andPt concentration in Ag-Pt bimetallic nanoparticles. The selectiveresponse was witnessed by the 1:1 Ag:Pt-ZnO sample at a temperatureof 175 & DEG;C toward ethanol gas with good stability and reproducibility.Furthermore, the enhancement in gas sensing performance was investigatedand found that the optimal amount of Ag and Pt can provide a synergisticeffect to zinc oxide for the improvement of highly selective real-timedetection of ethanol gas.
