Reaction behavior and non-isothermal kinetics of suspension magnetization roasting of limonite and siderite

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In order to develop limonite and reduce CO2 emissions, siderite is proposed as a clean reductant for suspension magnetization roasting (SMR) of limonite. The study successfully achieved the conversion of weak magnetic minerals to strong magnetic minerals through SMR, enabling the recovery of iron via magnetic separation. The use of siderite as a reductant in SMR has great potential and is encouraged.

Drying performance of limonite pellets in the hot air-assisted microwave

Jilu Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the drying performance of limonite and found that both hot air and microwave drying can significantly improve the drying speed. Higher temperature and shorter hot air drying time can save drying time, while microwave drying can dry limonite faster. The addition of Na2CO3 can lower the activation energy of the drying process. The optimized parameters for combined drying can achieve faster drying time and lower energy consumption, while increasing feed sources and hot air assisted drying can improve the uniformity of microwave heating.

Distinct Difference in High-temperature Characteristics between Limonitic Nickel Laterite and Ordinary Limonite

Yuxiao Xue et al.

Summary: This study systematically explains the distinct differences in high-temperature characteristics between limonitic nickel laterite and ordinary limonite, and reveals that limonitic nickel laterite has higher refractoriness in the sintering process. Limonitic nickel laterite has poorer assimilability and liquid phase fluidity due to its abundant high-smelting minerals compared to ordinary limonite, resulting in a relatively weaker bonding matrix. Promoting the formation of liquid phase and densification of the sinter is crucial for the sintering of limonitic nickel laterite.

Reverse froth flotation separation of limonite and quartz with cationic gemini surfactant

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: A novel collector, EDDA, was synthesized and used in the reverse froth flotation of limonite and quartz. The results showed that EDDA had good floatation ability and selectivity to quartz, and it was more effective than the commonly used DDA. The high-efficiency separation of limonite and quartz could be achieved without adding depressant by using EDDA at the natural pH range.

Mechanism of microwave assisted suspension magnetization roasting of oolitic hematite ore

Zhou Wen-tao et al.

Summary: In this study, a microwave-assisted suspension magnetization roasting technology was proposed to recover and utilize oolitic hematite. The results showed that microwave pretreatment increased the iron grade and recovery of the magnetic concentrate. Microcracks formed during pretreatment promoted the selective transformation of weak magnetic hematite into strong magnetic magnetite.

Adsorption behavior of sodium oleate on iron minerals and its effect on flotation kinetics

Huili Han et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the adsorption behavior of sodium oleate on hematite, limonite, and siderite and their corresponding flotation performance. The results showed that Fe atoms were the main active centers for the chemisorption of NaOL, with hematite and limonite having more active sites for NaOL adsorption compared to siderite.

Reduction mechanism of the porous hematite in limonite ore magnetization roasting

Xinran Zhu et al.

Summary: Magnetization roasting is an effective method for treating limonite ore, but further investigation into the reduction mechanism is needed. In this study, limonite ore was magnetization roasted using a fluidized reactor, and the reduction mechanism of porous hematite was studied. The results showed the presence of microporosity in synthetic hematite, which increased the specific surface area and facilitated the reduction of hematite to magnetite. The reduction mechanism of porous hematite to magnetite followed the nucleation model A(3/2), with an activation energy of 18.43 kJ/mol. The saturation magnetization of synthetic magnetite was 60.19 Am-2/kg.

Recycling iron from oolitic hematite via microwave fluidization roasting and magnetic separation

Wentao Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a clean and innovative microwave fluidization roasting method was developed to recover iron resources from oolitic hematite. The microwave pretreatment promoted the formation of microcracks at mineral interfaces, accelerating the reaction and phase transformation during magnetization roasting. The iron mineral phase was selectively transformed into strongly magnetic magnetite, and the iron mineral was effectively recycled from the roasted samples through magnetic separation.

Beneficiation of low-grade, goethite-rich iron ore using microwave-assisted magnetizing roasting

V. Nunna et al.

Summary: Microwave-assisted reduction roasting of reject iron ore waste stream rich in goethite was used to produce high-grade concentrate, with optimal conditions leading to conversion of goethite to synthetic magnetite. Higher reduction temperatures led to greater conversion of goethite to magnetite, but caution is needed to avoid over-reduction which could complicate subsequent beneficiation processes.
