Factor Analysis with Ordered Categorical Indicators and Measurement of Self-Efficacy in Physical Activity Contexts: A Substantive-Methodological Synergy

Summary: Factor analysis of ordered categorical indicators in kinesiology is a common practice, but certain assumptions made in commonly used methods may lead to analytical errors. Although methods that relax these assumptions have been available for a long time, their adoption has been slow. This tutorial focuses on the methodological aspects of factor analysis of ordered categorical indicators, while also addressing the measurement of self-efficacy in physical activity contexts. The tutorial provides annotated files from Mplus and R for analyzing simulated ordered categorical responses to self-efficacy indicators.

Autonomy support in sport and exercise settings: a systematic review and meta-analysis
