A review of gold extraction using alternatives to cyanide: Focus on current status and future prospects of the novel eco-friendly synthetic gold lixiviants

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: Cyanide is highly toxic and poses environmental risks in gold extraction. Extensive research has been conducted to find eco-friendly alternatives, leading to the successful development of novel synthetic gold lixiviants (NESGLs) such as Jinchan. These NESGLs are less toxic compared to cyanide and have achieved comparable gold recoveries without altering the cyanidation process. The growing industrial applications of NESGLs suggest a potential shift away from cyanide dominance.

A systematic review of gold extraction: Fundamentals, advancements, and challenges toward alternative lixiviants

Zuo-wei Liu et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the research on alternative lixiviants and methods for gold extraction, including cyanide, thiosulfate, thiourea, thiocyanate, polysulfides, halides, and microbial leaching. Various obstacles, such as toxicity, excessive consumption, and low leaching efficiency, have been progressively overcome through process improvement, system optimization, the use of co-intensifying systems, and the development of additives. The comprehensive performance of lixiviants is evaluated based on economy, efficiency, and environment.

A review of the technologies for antimony recovery from refractory ores and metallurgical residues

Hongbin Ling et al.

Summary: The global reserve of antimony is declining while demand continues to grow, making it an increasingly scarce metal. Little antimony has been recovered from waste plastics, leading many countries to rely on recovering antimony from refractory ores and metallurgical residues. Various innovative processes have been proposed for efficient and selective antimony recovery with minimal cost and impact.

Selective leaching of antimony from tetrahedrite rich concentrate using alkaline sulfide solution with experimental design: Optimization and kinetic studies

Sajjad Aghazadeh et al.

Summary: Antimony dissolution from tetrahedrite concentrate was investigated using Na2S-NaOH as lixiviant agent. The study identified temperature as a key factor for antimony dissolution, with stirring speed and Na2S concentration having slight effects.

Characterization of tetrahedrite Cu10Cd2Sb4S13 monograin materials grown in molten CdI2 and LiI

Fairouz Ghisani et al.

Summary: Cd-substituted tetrahedrite Cu10Cd2Sb4S13 (TH-Cd) monograin powders were synthesized using the molten salt synthesis-growth method with CdI2 and LiI as fluxes. XRD data showed formation of single phase tetrahedrite Cu10Cd2Sb4S13 in both fluxes, with differences in lattice parameters and composition. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy confirmed stoichiometry and Li incorporation in the crystals, while photoluminescence study revealed different PL bands and activation energies for crystals grown in CdI2 and LiI. Li incorporation from LiI into the crystal lattice of TH-Cd forming a solid solution was evidenced by the changes observed.
