Comparative Analysis of Primary Photosynthetic Reactions Assessed by OJIP Kinetics in Three Brassica Crops after Drought and Recovery

Jasenka Antunovic Dunic et al.

Summary: Plant drought tolerance is determined by how the photosynthetic apparatus adapts to water deficit. This study analyzed the OJIP kinetics of seedlings from three Brassica crops under drought conditions to find parameters for distinguishing drought-tolerant and drought-sensitive varieties. The increase in PItotal, SFI, positive L and K bands, Delta DF, and DRI indicate drought tolerance, while negative L and K bands, PItotal, SFI, and RC/CS0 density can distinguish susceptible varieties. Kale was the most tolerant, Chinese cabbage was moderately susceptible, and white cabbage was highly sensitive to drought stress. The genetic variation among these crops could be utilized in breeding programs and crop management.

Physiological insights on soybean response to drought

Antonela Markulj Kulundzic et al.

Summary: As most soybean in Europe is grown in rainfed conditions, climate aberrations are causing significant crop yield variability. Breeding stable and adaptable cultivars is essential to stabilize the yield and shift the sources of supply to European-grown soybean. This research aimed to examine the physiological insights on soybean response to drought by monitoring various parameters. The results showed that some parameters are good indicators of drought stress, which can facilitate genotype selection and increase breeding program efficiency.

Environmental stress-what can we learn from chlorophyll a fluorescence analysis in woody plants? A review

Tatiana Swoczyna et al.

Summary: Chlorophyll a fluorescence signal analysis is a non-invasive technique widely used to study photosynthetic process under stress conditions. It has extensive applications in ecology, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, and arboriculture. Woody plants have complex responses to stress, and understanding the changes in their photosynthetic efficiency is crucial for assessing their health and adaptability.

Response of Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) and Weed Control with Postemergence Herbicides and Combinations of Cytokinin Mixtures

Hunter D. Bowman et al.

Summary: A field study conducted in Stoneville, MS in 2015 and 2016 investigated the impact of cytokinin products on soybean injury and weed control when used in combination with common POST soybean herbicides. The results showed that the addition of cytokinin treatments did not affect soybean injury, plant height, or yield. Glyphosate plus fomesafen provided the highest level of Palmer amaranth control, but this control was antagonized by one of the cytokinin products.

Effect of Prolonged Photoperiod on Light-Dependent Photosynthetic Reactions in Cannabis

Martina Srajer Gajdosik et al.

Summary: This study found that the type of light and photoperiod used for cultivating hemp had different effects on photosynthetic reactions. The 16/8 photoperiod was found to be the most beneficial, resulting in the most efficient photosynthetic response and the lowest level of lipid peroxidation.

Antioxidative response and photosynthetic regulatory mechanisms in common fig leaves after short-term chilling stress

Selma Mlinaric et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of short-term chilling stress on antioxidative response and PSII photochemistry in developing leaves of two common fig varieties. Results showed that both varieties did not exhibit membrane lipid damage due to efficient antioxidative activity. However, there were differences in the regulation of main photosynthetic parameters between the two varieties, suggesting differential responses to chilling stress.

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) Growth, Yield, and Nodulation in the Early Transition Period from Conventional Tillage to Conservation and No-Tillage Systems

Sergeja Adamic et al.

Summary: The study found that during the early transition period to less intensive tillage systems, soybean cultivation under less suitable agro-climatic conditions does not result in major yield losses if correct crop and weed management measures are implemented.

Functional Characterization of the Photosynthetic Machinery in Smicronix Galls on the Parasitic Plant Cuscuta campestris by JIP-Test

Lyuben Zagorchev et al.

Summary: Members of the genus Cuscuta are generally considered non-photosynthetic, but some may exhibit limited photosynthetic capabilities. Galls formed by Smicronyx weevils on Cuscuta campestris contain chlorophylls, especially in the inner cortex, indicating active photosynthetic machinery. This insect-induced photosynthesis in the gall is driven by increased nutrient requirements for larval nutrition.
