Feasibility of Functional Repetitive Neuromuscular Magnetic Stimulation (frNMS) Targeting the Gluteal Muscle in a Child with Cerebral Palsy: A Case Report

Michaela Bonfert et al.

Summary: The aim of this case report was to evaluate the feasibility, safety and clinical effects of a customized protocol of functional repetitive neuromuscular magnetic stimulation (frNMS) in an 8-year old boy with bilateral spastic CP. The protocol showed positive results with improvements in standing and walking abilities.

Summary: The GOAL questionnaire, originally in English, was translated into German for evaluating gait-related function in children and adolescents with CP. Results showed a significant negative association between GOAL scores and GMFCS levels, with excellent test-retest reliability and internal consistency.

Repetitive Neuromuscular Magnetic Stimulation for Pediatric Headache Disorders: Muscular Effects and Factors Affecting Level of Response

Corinna Boerner et al.

Summary: Repetitive neuromuscular magnetic stimulation (rNMS) is a feasible and safe treatment for pediatric headache disorders, providing relief from headache symptoms. This study found that rNMS targeting the upper trapezius muscles significantly increased pressure pain thresholds (PPT) and sustained the effects for 3 months. The effectiveness of rNMS varied depending on the type of headache and the presence of neck pain, with patients with neck pain responding better to treatment. Two rNMS sessions per week led to the highest reduction in headache frequency.

The bottom-up approach: Non-invasive peripheral neurostimulation methods to treat migraine: A scoping review from the child neurologist's perspective

Corinna Borner et al.

Summary: Migraine is a common and disabling disorder, with peripheral neurostimulation being considered a promising option for its treatment. Some methods have been found to be effective in acute migraine attacks, while others show potential in migraine prevention. Overall, peripheral neurostimulation represents a promising option for pediatric migraine treatment.

Repetitive Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation of Wrist Extensors Enhances Cortical Excitability and Motor Performance in Healthy Individuals

Mitsuhiro Nito et al.

Summary: rPMS, especially at 25 Hz or higher for 15 minutes, significantly increases motor evoked potentials, decreases short-interval intracortical inhibition, and enhances intracortical facilitation in wrist extensor muscles, lasting up to 60 minutes. This suggests that rPMS can improve cortical excitability in the relevant area rather than altering spinal circuit excitability, potentially leading to improved motor output.

RELIABILITY OF PROCESSING 3-D FREEHAND ULTRASOUND DATA TO DEFINE MUSCLE VOLUME AND ECHO-INTENSITY IN PEDIATRIC LOWER LIMB MUSCLES WITH TYPICAL DEVELOPMENT OR WITH SPASTICITY

Britta Hanssen et al.

Summary: This study assessed the processor reliability of estimating muscle volume and echo-intensity of the rectus femoris, tibialis anterior, and semitendinosus, demonstrating high ICC values and low relative SEM values for these parameters in both intra-processor and inter-processor analysis. This indicates that muscle volume and echo-intensity can be reliably extracted in typically developing children and children with cerebral palsy.
