ADHD symptoms and diagnosis in adult preterms: systematic review, IPD meta-analysis, and register-linkage study

Rachel Robinson et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in ADHD symptoms and diagnosis between preterm and term-born adults and found that while preterm adults may not report higher levels of ADHD symptoms, they have a higher risk of receiving an ADHD diagnosis in adulthood.

Racial Inequity in High-Risk Infant Follow-Up Among Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants

Yarden S. Fraiman et al.

Summary: This study examined racial inequities in high-risk infant follow-up program (HRIF) participation using a large multicenter cohort of ELBW infants. The results show significant disparities in HRIF participation, with lower rates among Black infants. These findings provide valuable information for efforts to reduce inequities.

Diagnostic and Medication Treatment Disparities in African American Children with ADHD: a Literature Review

Amy Glasofer et al.

Summary: This literature review found significant disparities in ADHD diagnosis and medication treatment between African American and White children in the majority of studies. While diagnostic disparities show a trend toward reduction, a similar trend was not observed in medication treatment disparities.

Association of prenatal modifiable risk factors with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder outcomes at age 10 and 15 in an extremely low gestational age cohort

David M. Cochran et al.

Summary: Maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and diabetes are associated with increased risk of ADHD in extremely preterm infants, while maternal smoking during pregnancy and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are not associated with the risk. There is some evidence for associations between high levels of inflammatory proteins or moderate levels of neurotrophic proteins and ADHD outcomes.

Implications of racial/ethnic perinatal health inequities on long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes and health services utilization

Yarden S. Fraiman et al.

Summary: Infants born preterm and with low birth weight are at greater risk for long-term neurodevelopmental challenges compared to term-born peers. Inequities in preterm birth rates and short-term morbidities based on race, ethnicity, language, and nativity have been well-documented. However, there is limited understanding of how these inequities impact long-term outcomes, although concerns have been raised about unequal access to post-discharge support services for preterm infants. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge on the impact of race, ethnicity, nativity, and language on long-term outcomes, and offers guidance for future research, intervention, and advocacy to address inequities in neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Long-term medication for ADHD and development of cognitive functions in children and adolescents

Mats Johnson et al.

Summary: This study found that cognitive functions and ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents improved after 1 year of well-controlled medication for ADHD, autism, and other comorbidities. The main limitation of the study is the open uncontrolled trial design, but the results suggest promising long-term effects of ADHD medication on cognitive functions.
