Exploring the Transmission Path, Influencing Factors and Risk of Aerosol Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport

Summary: The genetic sequence analysis of COVID-19 cases at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport showed a high level of consistency with imported cases. A field simulation experiment of aerosol diffusion was conducted to investigate the transmission routes and factors influencing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 at the airport. The results revealed that passengers waiting in the international arrival area for approximately 3 hours were at risk of infection due to the rise of viral aerosols from the first level to the second level and subsequent spread to other areas. Measures such as separate isolation for the international arrival area, improved toilet ventilation, and disinfection and filtration devices for exhaust pipes were recommended to reduce the risk of viral aerosol diffusion.

Summary: The airborne transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 has created an urgent need for aerosol monitoring to prevent sporadic outbreaks of COVID-19. We have developed a novel monitoring system that combines high sensitivity and a short turnaround time. By testing clinical samples, we have demonstrated the excellent performance of our system and its potential application in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spatiotemporal analysis of reported classical swine fever outbreaks in China (2005-2018) and the influence of weather

Summary: This study examines the spatial distribution and spatiotemporal clusters of classical swine fever (CSF) outbreaks in China from 2005 to 2018, as well as the correlation between climate factors and the occurrence of CSF. The study finds that there was significant spatial clustering of CSF outbreaks, particularly in the southern provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Yunnan. Implementation of a national animal disease control plan and increasing vaccination coverage have effectively reduced CSF outbreaks in China. Low relative humidity and high wind speed were identified as significant weather variables associated with CSF occurrence. The study suggests updating and standardizing the national CSF control protocol.

Quantitative structural analysis of influenza virus by cryo-electron tomography and convolutional neural networks

Summary: Influenza viruses are highly pleomorphic, making their structural characterization challenging. This report demonstrates the use of convolutional neural networks and cryo-electron tomography to successfully characterize the morphology and glycoprotein density of the H1N1 influenza strain. This approach improves the efficiency of influenza virus analysis and has potential applications in studying other pleomorphic viruses and infected cells.

Porcine Respiratory Coronavirus as a Model for Acute Respiratory Coronavirus Disease

Summary: In response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, a porcine respiratory coronavirus (PRCV) model has been developed for in-depth evaluation of the pathogenesis, virology, and immune responses of this virus family. Pigs, which share similar physiology and immunology with humans, were used as a natural host for PRCV. The study found that different PRCV strains induced varying degrees of lung pathology, with those causing more severe lung damage being able to replicate in ex vivo tracheal organ cultures, as well as in the trachea and lung in vivo.
