Coupled microplane and micromechanics model for describing the damage and plasticity evolution of quasi-brittle material

Lingwei Kong et al.

Summary: In this study, a new constitutive model is proposed to consider the mesoscopic damage and plasticity mechanisms of quasi-brittle materials by coupling microplane and micro-mechanics. The model utilizes microplanes to characterize the equivalent cracks-matrix system and establishes the relationship between macroscopic and microplane strains (stresses). Furthermore, it introduces a plasticity criterion combining damage and dilatancy behavior, and verifies its effectiveness through simulation and comparison with experimental data.

Impacts of different cooling methods on the dynamic tensile properties of thermal-treated granite

Yan Xi et al.

Summary: Hot dry rock (HDR) is a clean and renewable energy source that has gained global attention. This study investigates the dynamic tensile properties of thermal-treated granite for mining HDR using different cooling methods. Tests were conducted on granite at different temperatures after natural, water, and liquid nitrogen cooling, comparing the dynamic tensile properties, thermal shock damage, and energy evolution process. The experimental findings suggest that with the increasing thermal treatment temperature, the granite's P-wave velocity, dynamic tensile strength, and absorbed energy decrease, while thermal shock damage increases. Liquid nitrogen cooling has the most significant effect, followed by water cooling and natural cooling. The occurrence of cracks and failure zones also increased with temperature and was influenced by different cooling methods. This research provides valuable insights for understanding the dynamic tensile properties and failure mechanism of thermal-treated granite after rapid cooling, thereby improving the efficiency of geothermal well exploitation.

A critical review of the experimental and theoretical research on cyclic hydraulic fracturing for geothermal reservoir stimulation

Ning Li et al.

Summary: This article comprehensively reviews the latest research progress on cyclic hydraulic fracturing (CHF), clarifies six CHF cyclic loading schemes, and discusses the stimulation results. It is difficult to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different loading schemes, but confining pressure and fracturing fluid viscosity are key factors affecting the stimulation results of CHF. In addition, through the review and discussion of existing theoretical and numerical models, some aspects for further understanding the failure mechanism of CHF are proposed.

Xiting Long et al.

Summary: The experiments on geothermal resources in Rucheng County showed that the F3 fault zone and F1 hanging wall secondary fault are the main thermal control structures. The geothermal water in this area has high pH and EC values, but low corrosiveness and calcium carbonate scaling, indicating promising application prospects.

Damage mechanism and heat transfer characteristics of limestone after thermal shock cycle treatments based on geothermal development

Jianjun Hu et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the effects of thermal shock fatigue on the physical and mechanical properties and heat conduction of limestone. The study finds that an increase in temperature and the number of cycles leads to a decrease in the P-wave velocity, thermal conductivity, and tensile strength of limestone. The research provides important insights for the development of geothermal carbonate reservoirs.

Changes in the thermodynamic properties of alkaline granite after cyclic quenching following high temperature action

Jianjun Hu et al.

Summary: This study conducted thermal damage tests on granite at different temperatures and quenching cycles to reveal the impact of thermal fatigue damage on hot dry rock. Results showed that increasing temperature and cycles led to crack development in granite, reducing its properties. The research also established a nonlinear relationship among thermal conductivity, temperature, and cycle number for hot dry rock, providing theoretical support for reservoir reconstruction and production efficiency evaluation.

Macroscopic and microscopic experimental research on granite properties after high-temperature and water-cooling cycles

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation on high-temperature and water-cooling cycles reveals that the mechanical properties and microscopic characteristics of granite undergo changes. The uniaxial compressive strength, elasticity modulus, and P-wave velocity decrease with increasing temperature and cycles, with mineral expansion and cyclic thermal shock being the main reasons for rock deterioration. Additionally, there is a good correlation between P-wave velocity and mechanical parameters, indicating that the ultrasonic method can reflect changes in mechanical characteristics.
