Erectile dysfunction, anxiety, perceived stress, and insomnia are more common among acquired premature ejaculation patients compared to other premature ejaculation syndromes

Aykut Demirci et al.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in anxiety, perceived stress, insomnia severity, and sleep chronotype among different types of premature ejaculation (PE). The results showed that patients with acquired PE had more severe erectile dysfunction, higher insomnia severity and perceived stress scores, a more eveningness sleep chronotype, and more anxiety symptoms compared to other types of PE.

Nutraceuticals: A New Challenge against Cadmium-Induced Testicular Injury

Herbert Ryan Marini et al.

Summary: Cadmium is a widespread heavy metal and toxicant that can cause damages to the testicular structure and function. It is mainly exposure from cigarette smoking, air pollution, and contaminated water and food consumption. The toxic effects of cadmium on the testes include oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Currently, there is no specific therapy available for the prevention or treatment of cadmium-induced diseases and mortality, thus the development of new therapeutic agents is needed. Dietary strategies and the use of nutraceuticals may be effective in preventing and alleviating cadmium-induced testicular injury.

The Efficacy of Acupuncture on Patients with Erectile Dysfunction: A Review

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common sexual dysfunction in men that has been increasingly prevalent in recent years, significantly impacting male reproductive health and quality of life. Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are commonly recommended drugs for treating ED, but many patients seek alternative therapies due to adverse reactions and poor efficacy. This study aims to summarize the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture treatment for ED, and predict and analyze the related mechanisms.

Summary: The link between sexual dysfunction and male infertility has been well established. This study aims to investigate male sexual dysfunction in different reproductive situations such as infertility, pregnancy loss, and preconception care. The findings show higher rates of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation in the infertility and pregnancy loss groups compared to the preconception care group. The duration of infertility and frequency of pregnancy loss are also associated with a higher incidence of erectile dysfunction.

Testicular aging, male fertility and beyond

Shijue Dong et al.

Summary: Normal spermatogenesis and sperm function are essential for male fertility. Testicular aging and premature aging can lead to disturbed spermatogenesis, sperm abnormalities, and impaired male reproductive cells, ultimately resulting in male infertility. Mechanistically, genetic mutations, oxidative stress, DNA damage, and epigenetic modifications play important roles in male fertility decline due to aging. Recent studies have identified key molecules and signaling pathways that regulate testicular aging, providing new strategies for diagnosis and treatment.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia - what do we know?

Conor M. Devlin et al.

Summary: The pathogenesis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) involves pathways related to androgens, estrogens, insulin, inflammation, proliferative reawakening, stem cells, and telomerase. Some pathways described over 40 years ago have been reevaluated and are now considered important in the development of BPH. Current research focuses on inflammatory processes within the prostate leading to growth factor production, stem cell activation, and cellular proliferation as key mechanisms in BPH.

Summary: Research findings suggest that despite markedly reduced testosterone production in LH beta mutant males, complete spermatogenesis can still be maintained. Low-dose testosterone supplementation in LuRKO mice can also sustain spermatogenesis. Moreover, transgenic expression of a constitutively activating FSHR mutant can rescue spermatogenesis in antiandrogen-treated LuRKO mice.
