An In Vitro Study on the Efficacy of Mycotoxin Sequestering Agents for Aflatoxin B1, Deoxynivalenol, and Zearalenone

Jong Young Ahn et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the efficacy of mycotoxin sequestering agents for aflatoxin B1, deoxynivalenol, and zearalenone using an in vitro method. Results showed that most sequestering agents effectively bound to aflatoxin B1, with only activated charcoal showing significant effects on deoxynivalenol and zearalenone.

Investigation of the efficacy of mycotoxin-detoxifying additive on health and growth of newly-weaned pigs under deoxynivalenol challenges

Debora Muratori Holanda et al.

Summary: Feeding diets naturally contaminated with deoxynivalenol resulted in reduced growth and compromised hepatic health in pigs, while the addition of a mycotoxin-detoxifying additive improved hepatic health and glucose levels, and reduced gut damage.

Mycotoxin Occurrence, Toxicity, and Detoxifying Agents in Pig Production with an Emphasis on Deoxynivalenol

Debora Muratori Holanda et al.

Summary: The occurrence of mycotoxins, especially aflatoxins and Fusarium toxins, poses a challenge to pig production globally. Their toxic effects impair the health and growth of pigs. Effective mycotoxin-detoxifying agents are needed to improve pig health and performance, and enhance the sustainable use of crops.

Equations to Predict Growth Performance Changes by Dietary Deoxynivalenol in Pigs

Jongkeon Kim et al.

Summary: The study assessed accuracy of equations predicting effects of deoxynivalenol (DON) on pig growth performance, updating equations based on new data. Results showed negative correlations between dietary DON concentrations and pig weight gain (r = -0.79; p < 0.01) and feed intake (r = -0.71; p < 0.01). New prediction equations were developed with r(2) values of 0.77 for weight gain and 0.68 for feed intake, suggesting accurate prediction of DON effects on pig performance.

Comparative efficacy of commercially available deoxynivalenol detoxifying feed additives on growth performance, total tract digestibility of components, and physiological responses in nursery pigs fed diets formulated with naturally contaminated corn

Alice W. Mwaniki et al.

Summary: The efficacy of deoxynivalenol (DON) detoxifying feed additives (FA) was evaluated in nursery pig studies, showing that FA containing sequestering component plus fungal extract or SMB in DON-contaminated feed resulted in similar performance to PC. The tested FA mitigated intestinal oxidative stress through decreased expression of genes for superoxide dismutase.
