Plastic waste management: A road map to achieve circular economy and recent innovations in pyrolysis

N. Sakthipriya

Summary: The contemporary world is facing challenges from increasing plastic waste due to economic and population growth. Recycling is the best solution to reduce the use of fossil fuels and move towards a circular economy. The type and hierarchy of waste provide a basis for choosing proper waste recycling policies. Pyrolysis offers a valuable way to convert plastic waste into useful products and serves as a sustainable alternative to incineration and landfilling. This study provides an overview of plastic pyrolysis technology and its role in achieving a circular economy.

Determining stability of organic solvent nanofiltration membranes by cross-flow aging

Ze-Xian Low et al.

Summary: Through static aging experiments and cross-flow aging protocols, the stability of four commercial OSN membranes in different organic solvents was studied. The results showed that acetonitrile had the most significant effect on the membranes, and polyimide-based membranes exhibited signs of aging with increasing temperature. The new cross-flow aging protocol can facilitate rapid screening of OSN membranes for industrial use.
