Microfluidic paper-based wearable electrochemical biosensor for reliable cortisol detection in sweat

Luca Fiore et al.

Summary: In this paper, the researchers introduce a paper-based microfluidic device that uses filter paper to control fluid flow and load reagents for reagent-free competitive magnetic-bead-based immunosensor for cortisol analysis in sweat. The device is made using wax printing and laser-cutting techniques, and the capillary-driven microfluidics allows for specific measurement of cortisol using magnetic beads with functionalized antibodies. The device, when combined with a Near-Field Communication wireless module, creates a flexible integrated wearable analytical tool for cortisol detection in sweat.

Novel biosensor platform for glucose monitoring via smartphone based on battery-less NFC potentiostat

Kiattisak Promsuwan et al.

Summary: Near-field communication (NFC) was utilized to control a portable glucose biosensor for diabetes diagnosis. The system consisted of a smartphone, an NFC potentiostat connected to a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE), and a modified carbon electrode with Prussian blue-graphene ink and gold nanoparticles-embedded poly (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):polysulfonic acid (GOx-AuNPs-PEDOT:PSS/PB-G). The accuracy of the NFC biosensing device was validated by comparing the results with the standard hospital method, showing good agreement. The device demonstrated a linear concentration range of 0.5-500 mu M and a detection limit of 0.15 mu M for glucose quantification in human blood serum.
