Ammonium-nitrate mixtures dominated by NH4+-N promote the growth of pecan (Carya illinoinensis) through enhanced N uptake and assimilation

Mengyun Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the growth, nutrient uptake, and N assimilation characteristics of pecan were analyzed under different NH4 (+)/NO3 (-) ratios. The results showed that a ratio of 75/25 promoted the growth and NUE of pecan the most. It was also found that the regulation of N assimilation enzymes and genes could affect the growth and nutrient uptake of pecan.

Accumulation of Proline in Plants under Contaminated Soils-Are We on the Same Page?

Sofia Spormann et al.

Summary: Agricultural soil degradation is increasing at an alarming rate, influenced by climate change and intensified agricultural practices. Understanding the impacts of climate change and soil degradation on plant physiology is crucial for the development of effective strategies to mitigate crop productivity losses. Proline, an amino acid, has been recognized for its roles in plant cells under osmotic stress, showing a positive correlation between proline accumulation and tolerance to abiotic stress. However, recent studies question the assumption that proline accumulation always indicates improved stress resilience, suggesting the need for further biochemical and physiological endpoints.

Phytoremediation of industrial effluents assisted by plant growth promoting bacteria

Youshaa Danyal et al.

Summary: Industrialization is crucial for economic development, but its effluents often contain toxic substances. Treatment methods for these effluents include physical, chemical, and biological techniques. Among them, biological remediation, particularly plant microbe interactions, is cost-effective and suitable for various kinds of effluents. This study discusses the role of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) in enhancing the phytoremediation processes of industrial effluents.

Proline-mediated activation of glyoxalase II improve methylglyoxal detoxification in Oryza sativa L. under chromium injury: Clarification via vector analysis of enzymatic activities and gene expression

Xingren Pan et al.

Summary: Environmental factors, such as excessive accumulation of methylglyoxal (MG), affect plant functioning. Proline (Pro), when applied exogenously, has been found to enhance plant tolerance against environmental stresses, including chromium (Cr). This study demonstrates that exogenous Pro reduces MG content in rice roots induced by Cr(VI) by modifying the expression of glyoxalase I (Gly I) and glyoxalase II (Gly II) related genes. The vector analysis and gene expression data suggest that Pro primarily improves Gly II activity in rice roots, enhancing MG detoxification under Cr(VI) stress.

Arginine Increases Tolerance to Nitrogen Deficiency in Malus hupehensis via Alterations in Photosynthetic Capacity and Amino Acids Metabolism

Qi Chen et al.

Summary: This study explored the function of arginine in the growth of apple plants under nitrogen deficiency and found that exogenous arginine can alleviate nitrogen deficiency stress and improve the absorption and use of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Arginine also affects the content of metabolites, amino acids, and antioxidants, promoting photosynthetic capacity and improving the tolerance of apple plants to nitrogen deficiency.

Elucidating comportment of the glutamate and ornithine pathway on proline accumulation in rice under different nitrogenous nutrition

Y. -H. Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that proline accumulation in rice seedlings is influenced by different nitrogenous nutrition, with ammonium treatments causing more accumulation than nitrate treatments. Additionally, external arginine and glutamate led to excessive accumulation of proline in rice seedlings, with arginine being more efficient than glutamate in proline synthesis.

Contribution of Exogenous Proline to Abiotic Stresses Tolerance in Plants: A Review

Marjanossadat Hosseinifard et al.

Summary: Abiotic stresses are major environmental factors that decrease plant yield by affecting physiological, biochemical, and molecular processes. Using organic compounds like proline can improve plant tolerance to these stresses by enhancing photosynthesis, antioxidant activity, and regulating osmolyte and ion balance.

Mathematical quantification of interactive complexity of transcription factors involved in proline-mediated regulative strategies in Oryza sativa under chromium stress

Qing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory complexity of transcription factors (TFs) in rice plants under the chromium (Cr) stress, mediated by exogenous proline (Pro). The results showed that Pro had a positive effect on reducing the negative impact of Cr on rice plants by regulating the expression and interaction of different TFs.

Chromium in plant growth and development: Toxicity, tolerance and hormesis

Jesus Salvador Lopez-Bucio et al.

Summary: Research has shown that chromium, particularly the oxyanion chromate Cr(VI), is a toxic environmental pollutant that damages plants. However, at mild concentrations, Cr(VI) can actually promote growth in plants and drive root organogenesis. Recent advances have been made in understanding the molecular mechanisms of root sensing of chromate and how plant hormones help plants balance growth and defense under chromium stress. The responses of plants to chromate vary depending on its concentration in the media, fitting the concept of hormesis.

Fuzzy synthetic evaluation of the impact of plant growth regulators on the root phenotype traits of rice seedlings under thiocyanate stress

Yu-Juan Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that exogenous IAA and NaHS have a greater potential for improving root phenotype traits of rice seedlings under SCN- stress, while JA failed to uplift these traits. Fuzzy synthetic evaluation revealed that in control plants, the effects of three PGRs on root phenotype traits are as follows: NaHS > IAA > JA, and under SCN- exposure, NaHS and IAA consistently regulated root phenotype traits of rice seedlings, with all PGRs showing a positive impact at 96 and 300 mg SCN/L.

Cr (VI)-induced oxidative damage impairs ammonia assimilation into organic forms in Solanum lycopersicum L.

Maria Martins et al.

Summary: The research focused on the effects of Cr(VI) exposure on tomato plants, resulting in biometric damages and differential influences on GS and GDH activities. Oxidative damage was observed in Cr(VI)-treated plants, with a generalized increase in lipid peroxidation and a failure of the enzymatic AOX system. Non-enzymatic AOX components played a relevant role in plant protection against Cr(VI) exposure.
