Under optimal parameters, TRDES showed higher yields compared to conventional solvents for lignanoids and polysaccharides extraction. The separated compounds exhibited strong antioxidant activities. TRDES has the potential to be widely used for efficient extraction and separation of multi-polar components and has lower cost production from plants.

Microwave assisted free radical degradation of Schisandra polysaccharides: Optimization, identification and application

Summary: A sample preparation method based on microwave assisted free radical degradation (MFRD) was proposed to establish structural-fingerprinting of polysaccharides for quality assessment. The MFRD condition was optimized and the structures of the degradation products were analyzed. A low-polymerization compositional fingerprinting was successfully constructed using high-performance anion-exchange chromatography. Compared to conventional methods, MFRD significantly improves sample preparations and is applicable to various polysaccharide samples.

Rapid characterization of Schisandra species by using direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry

This study demonstrates the potential of DART-MS as a powerful analytical tool for rapid detection and discrimination of S. chinensis and S. sphenanthera, with applications in the quality assessment of Schisandra species and possibly other herbal medicines.
