Association of Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis Assessed by High- Resolution Ultrasound With Traditional and Novel Anthropometric Indices

Clara Costo-Muriel et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 788 Spanish patients and found that all anthropometric indices, except for BMI, BAI, and CUNBAE, were significantly higher in patients with subclinical carotid artery arteriosclerosis. After multivariate analysis, only ABSI was significantly associated with subclinical carotid artery arteriosclerosis.

Summary: This article introduces the latest statistics on heart disease, stroke, and cardiovascular risk factors published by the American Heart Association in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health. The Statistical Update includes data on a range of clinical heart and circulatory disease conditions and their associated outcomes. It serves as a critical resource for the general public, policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and others seeking the best available data.

Association of weight-adjusted-waist index with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in China: A prospective cohort study

Congcong Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in southern China, and found that higher WWI levels were associated with increased risk of death. The findings suggest that WWI may serve as a simple and effective anthropometric index in clinical practice.

Association Between a Body Shape Index and Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis in Population Free of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Summary: This study used data from a cross-sectional survey in China to investigate the relationship between different anthropometric obesity indices and carotid atherosclerosis. The results suggest that ABSI, as a novel indicator, is closely associated with the presence of subclinical carotid plaque, even in low-risk populations without hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.

Summary: The study showed that weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is positively associated with fat mass and negatively associated with muscle mass in older adults. Higher WWI is linked to higher fat mass and lower muscle mass.

Body Roundness Index, A Body Shape Index, Conicity Index, and Their Association with Nutritional Status and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in South African Rural Young Adults

Mbelege Rosina Nkwana et al.

Summary: The study found significant correlations between BRI and insulin, HOMA-β, and TG, while Conicity Index was significantly associated with pulse rate, insulin resistance, underweight, and obesity. These findings highlight the relationship between these indices and nutritional status, as well as cardiovascular diseases.

Effectiveness of Body Roundness Index (BRI) and a Body Shape Index (ABSI) in Predicting Hypertension: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies

Julian F. Calderon-Garcia et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the Body Roundness Index (BRI) was a better predictor of hypertension compared to the Body Shape Index (ABSI). While Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) and Waist Circumference (WC) performed the best in assessing hypertension, BRI also showed good predictive ability for hypertension.

Association of Anthropometric Indices With the Development of Diabetes Among Hypertensive Patients in China: A Cohort Study

Yingshan Liu et al.

Summary: Patients with comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes are associated with higher cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. Anthropometric indices, especially waist-to-height ratio, can serve as sensitive markers for predicting diabetes risk among hypertensive patients in China. Monitoring central obesity and dynamic changes in waist-to-height ratio may help reduce the development of diabetes in the long term.
