Risk of cancer in regular and low meat-eaters, fish-eaters, and vegetarians: a prospective analysis of UK Biobank participants

Cody Z. Watling et al.

Summary: The study found that compared to regular meat-eaters, being a low meat-eater, fish-eater, or vegetarian was associated with a lower risk of all cancer. Low meat-eaters had a lower risk of colorectal cancer. Vegetarian postmenopausal women had a lower risk of breast cancer, while in men, being a fish-eater or a vegetarian was associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer.

Dairy Product Consumption and Cardiovascular Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Zhangling Chen et al.

Summary: The overall conclusion from the study is that total dairy consumption is associated with a modestly lower risk of hypertension, CHD, and stroke; however, low-fat dairy consumption is more strongly associated with lower risk, particularly in relation to hypertension and stroke. High-fat dairy consumption also shows a lower risk of stroke.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Post-Diagnostic Dietary and Lifestyle Factors and Prostate Cancer Recurrence, Progression, and Mortality

Crystal S. Langlais et al.

Summary: In reviewing studies on diet and lifestyle after prostate cancer diagnosis, it was found that smoking and consumption of whole milk/high-fat dairy are associated with a higher risk of PC recurrence and mortality, while physical activity and moderate red wine consumption are associated with a lower risk of PC-specific mortality. Greater inclusion of racially/ethnically diverse groups in future research is needed to better understand these relationships.

Dietary Factors and Prostate Cancer Development, Progression, and Reduction

Michal Oczkowski et al.

Summary: Nutrients and food consumption play a significant role in the etiology and prevention of prostate cancer. Certain nutrients and food products can disrupt prostate hormonal regulation, induce oxidative stress and inflammation, and alter growth factor signaling and lipid metabolism, contributing to prostate carcinogenesis. On the other hand, a high consumption of vegetables, fruits, fish, and whole grain products has protective and/or therapeutic effects against prostate cancer.

Adolescent animal product intake in relation to later prostate cancer risk and mortality in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study

Tuo Lan et al.

Summary: The study found suggestive inverse trends between adolescent unprocessed beef intake and total, advanced, and fatal prostate cancer (PCa), suggesting a potential association with reduced risk and mortality from PCa. However, no consistent patterns of association were observed for other animal products by PCa outcome. Further studies with more early-life exposure information are needed to better understand this relationship.
