UV-vis light responsive Bi2WO6 nanosheet/TiO2 nanobelt heterojunction photo-catalyst for CO2 reduction

Maryam Ahmadi et al.

Summary: A series of Bi2WO6/TiO2 composite photocatalysts with different ratios of Bi2WO6 nanosheets to TiO2 nanobelts were synthesized and evaluated for CO2 photoreduction. The composite photocatalysts showed enhanced CO2 adsorption capacity and conversion performance compared to pure TiO2 and bulk Bi2WO6. The loading of Bi2WO6 nanosheets on TiO2 nanobelts formed a heterojunction, which decreased the recombination rate of photoinduced electron-hole pairs and enhanced the visible light photocatalytic performance. The maximum CH4 production of 18.95 μmol/gcat in 8 hours was achieved by the composite with a Bi2WO6/TiO2 ratio of 1/2, which was three times higher than that of bulk Bi2WO6 and pure TiO2.

Metal organic framework composites for reduction of CO2

Kuan-Guan Liu et al.

Summary: Global warming is a major environmental threat caused by greenhouse gases, and technologies that convert CO2 into valuable and environmentally friendly fuels and chemicals are highly important. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with embedded functional sites or guests have shown excellent potential for such conversion, especially in MOF composites. This review discusses the use of MOF composites as catalysts for CO2 reduction, converting it into various value-added and environmentally friendly chemicals. Four major approaches for CO2 reduction are covered, along with the design and development of appropriate MOF composites. The future outlook on the use of MOF composites in CO2 reduction is also provided.

Determination of phthalate esters in real matrixes after extraction with a novel magnetic nano-material derived from a metal-organic framework

Niloofar Heydari et al.

Summary: A magnetic nano-material MMIL-88A was used for the extraction of phthalate esters and their determination by gas chromatography. Magnetite nanoparticles were coated with r-MIL-88A and then pyrolyzed to form a magnetic porous carbon (MPC) which was further covered with a polythiophene-polyindole (PTh-PIn) copolymer. MPC@PTh-PIn showed the best extraction performance among other materials. The synthesis of the nanomaterial was confirmed by various techniques. The method achieved low detection limits, wide linearity, and good recovery. The suggested method was successfully applied for the analysis of phthalate esters in seawater samples.

Photocatalytic Performance of Perovskite and Metal-Organic Framework Hybrid Material for the Reduction of N2 to Ammonia

Masoumeh Chamack et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF) named TMU-5 was used to synthesize the KNbO3@TMU-5 hybrid material, which exhibited higher ammonia production rate under UV light irradiation compared to pure KNbO3. Various characterization techniques revealed that the improved photoactivity of KNbO3@TMU-5 was attributed to its larger surface area, higher electron-hole separation efficiency, and higher density of negative charges on Nb sites.

Fabrication and performance of polysulfone/H2O2-g-C3N4 mixed matrix membrane in a photocatalytic membrane reactor under visible light irradiation for removal of natural organic matter

Saman Salehian et al.

Summary: The combination of photocatalysis with membrane technology, known as photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs), has been studied extensively in recent years as a promising method to enhance membrane fouling. This study showed that incorporating H2O2-treated g-C3N4 photocatalyst into a polysulfone membrane improved membrane properties such as hydrophilicity, porosity, and surface roughness. The resulting polysulfone/H2O2-g-C3N4 membrane exhibited high light absorption, low electron-hole recombination rate, and enhanced removal of humic acid with improved antifouling properties and water permeability under light conditions.
