Reconciling of experimental and theoretical insights on the electroactive behavior of C/Ni nanoparticles with AuPt alloys for hydrogen evolution efficiency and Non-enzymatic sensor

Yiseul Yu et al.

Summary: This study presents a new feasible strategy for fabricating carbon-coated nickel (C/Ni) nanoparticles with a AuPt alloy system, using an integrated pulsed laser irradiation and ultrasonochemical process. The C/Ni-AuPt alloy exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic activities for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media and selective detection of 1,4-benzenediol. The optimized C/Ni-AuPt electrocatalyst showed a broad dynamic linear response range and high sensitivity for sensing 1,4-benzenediol.

Atomistic structure and thermal stability of dislocation loops, stacking fault tetrahedra, and voids in face-centered cubic Fe

C. Dai et al.

Summary: Irradiation-induced hardening and changes to mechanical properties can lead to material degradation and limit the operation of reactor components. Dislocation loops, stacking fault tetrahedra, and voids are observed defects in structural materials. The stability and nature of dislocation loops and SFTs with temperature are important for the mechanical properties of materials.

Molecular dynamics studies on formation of stacking fault tetrahedra in FCC metals

Arun Kumar Panda et al.

Summary: This article explores the formation of stacking fault tetrahedra (SFT) in FCC metals like Ag and Ni, showing that vacancy clusters within voids can transform into SFT without the need for the Frank loop. Additionally, the study demonstrates the creation of SFT during nano-indentation of Ag and Ni, involving interactions of Shockley partials without the presence of vacancies or Frank loops.

Study on the crack formation mechanism in nano-cutting of gallium arsenide

Chenghao Chen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the crack formation mechanism in nano-cutting of gallium arsenide, finding that the main damage changes from dislocation to phase transformation with increasing cutting speed. The amount of cracks increases with higher cutting depth, and the deformation mode turns from ductile to a combination of ductile and brittle.

Grain size effects on nanocutting behaviour modelling based on molecular dynamics simulations

Michail Papanikolaou et al.

Summary: The research investigates how the grain size of a pure Aluminium workpiece affects the nanocutting process through Molecular Dynamics simulations. Results show that the cutting forces increase and the friction coefficient decreases with larger grain sizes, leading to higher temperature at the cutting region. Residual stresses at the grain boundaries can be relieved similar to heat treatment as the tool passes over the workpiece.

Atomistic origin of brittle-to-ductile transition behavior of polycrystalline 3C-SiC in diamond cutting

Liang Zhao et al.

Summary: The machinability of hard brittle polycrystalline ceramic is closely related to its internal microstructures and deformation behavior. The study reveals the mechanisms governing the brittle-to-ductile transition behavior of polycrystalline 3C-SiC in diamond cutting, including dislocation slip, amorphization-dominated ductile deformation, and grain boundaries-mediated brittle fracture. The competitive co-existence of various deformation modes determines the brittle-to-ductile transition behavior in grooving of polycrystalline 3C-SiC.
