Adsorption of sorbitan ester surfactant on copper and Cuprous oxide surfaces: A density functional theory study

L. E. Lopez-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This work investigates the adsorption of sorbitan monoacetate (SMA) molecules on Cu (1 1 1) and Cu2O (1 1 1) surfaces using density functional theory. The research finds that SMA adsorbs on Cu (1 1 1) through van der Waals interactions, while on Cu2O (1 1 1) it binds through coordination and hydrogen bonds. Charge transfer analysis reveals the electron withdrawing behavior of the molecule's oxygen atoms and the electron donating behavior of Cu atoms. Non-covalent index analysis shows attractive van der Waals interactions in both systems.

Growth and characterization of Cu2O and CuO thin films

Jatinder Kaur et al.

Summary: Crystalline Cu2O and CuO thin films were synthesized by pulsed laser deposition at various O-2 pressures, and the effects of O-2 pressure on the properties of the films were investigated. It was found that O-2 pressure significantly influenced the phase formation, structural, optical, surface morphology, wettability and electrical properties of the films.

Understanding the impact of Cu surface pre-treatment on Octadecanethiol-derived self-assembled monolayer as a mask for area-selective deposition

Mattia Pasquali et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of interface properties in forming dense thiol-SAM on metals, which is fundamental to a successful area selective deposition (ASD) process. Different surfaces on Cu are produced by treatment with acids or oxidizing agents, and the results show that a clean Cu surface cannot block Hf3N4 ALD, while an oxidized Cu surface can prevent up to 19 nm Hf3N4 film growth before Cu passivation is affected.

Characterizing Self-Assembled Monolayer Breakdown in Area-Selective Atomic Layer Deposition

Tzu-Ling Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the evolution of SAM crystallinity and structure before and after ALD, as well as the nucleation behavior of ALD on SAM-protected surfaces, using octadecyltrichlorosilane (ODTS) SAM as a model. The experiment shows that the crystallinity and structure of SAM remain intact until a significant amount of material deposition takes place, and different morphology of undesired ALD materials growth is observed on SAM-protected surfaces. This study provides an in-depth view of the influence of ALD processes on the SAM structure.
