Efficient photocatalytic degradation of toxic dyes over BiFeO3/CdS/rGO nanocomposite under visible light irradiation

Hassan Alijani et al.

Summary: New magnetically separable BiFeO3/CdS/rGO heterostructures were synthesized and used for the photodegradation of textile dyes under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the optimized photocatalyst, BiFeO3/CdS(9)/rGO(4%), exhibited significantly higher photodegradation rates compared to pure BiFeO3. The combination of BiFeO3 with CdS and the presence of rGO sheets were found to inhibit the recombination of electron-hole pairs and reduce electron-hole pairs recombination, respectively.

Composition controllable green synthesis of manganese dioxide nanoparticles using an edible freshwater red alga and its photocatalytic activity towards water soluble toxic dyes

Debasish Borah et al.

Summary: A green synthesis method for high purity manganese dioxide (alpha-MnO2) nanoparticles was achieved by reducing an aqueous KMnO4 solution using an aqueous extract of the freshwater red alga Lemanea manipurensis. The synthesized nanoparticles exhibited a spherical morphology with an average diameter of 115 nm. XRD analysis confirmed the crystallization of phase-pure alpha-MnO2 nanoparticles. The presence of phytomolecules responsible for stabilizing the nanoparticles was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy. The nanoparticles also showed excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of toxic dyes.

Facile synthesis of silver decorated reduced graphene oxide@zinc oxide as ternary nanocomposite: an efficient photocatalyst for the enhanced degradation of organic dye under UV-visible light

Asim Jilani et al.

Summary: The novel ternary nanocomposite Ag-rGO@ZnONR demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance in the degradation of 2-chlorophenol under solar light irradiation, possibly due to the engineered reduced bandgap and the Schottky barrier at the metal-semiconductor interface facilitating charge separation, as well as the generation of superoxide anions center dot O-2(-) and hydroxyl radicals center dot OH. These interactions, along with pi-pi stacking with the aromatic ring of 2-CP, contributed to the 100% degradation efficiency.
