Transparent sunlight-activated antifogging metamaterials

Iwan Haechler et al.

Summary: Counteracting surface fogging is crucial for eyewear, windows, and displays. An innovative transparent, sunlight-activated, photothermal coating is designed to inhibit fogging. This nanoscopically thin percolating gold layer coating achieves impressive performance in fog prevention and removal, even in cloudy conditions, with improved durability and integration capabilities.

Artificial skin with fast and robust self-healing ability for durable intelligent protection of magnesium alloys

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: In this work, an artificial skin with fast and robust self-healing ability was designed and fabricated to provide durable intelligent protection for magnesium alloys. The artificial skin consists of a hydrothermal film layer made of magnesium (hydr)oxides and a polymer film layer made of polyethyleneimine (PEI) and polyacrylic acid (PAA). It can heal cuts of 25 μm-120 μm within 25 minutes under moist atmosphere, and shows exceptional self-healing robustness to various severe damage.

Bioinspired extremely rapid self-repairing coatings for long-life repeated features

Kengo Manabe et al.

Summary: A water-induced, self-repairing coating inspired by cephalopod self-healing mechanisms has been developed to rapidly repair surface scratches. This coating mimics the self-repair process of cephalopods, with the addition of counter-ions improving water absorption and retention properties, resulting in a rapid self-repairing rate of 92% within 1 second.

Layer-by-Layer Assembly of Reduced Graphene Oxide and MXene Nanosheets for Wire-Shaped Flexible Supercapacitors

Junyeong Yun et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of the layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly technique to create wire-shaped supercapacitors (WSCs) with enhanced capacitance, energy density, and power density. The WSCs consist of alternating layers of positively charged reduced graphene oxide functionalized with poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and negatively charged Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets conformally deposited on activated carbon yarns. The LbL coatings on carbon yarns show promise as linear energy storage devices for fibrous electronics.

Dynamics and Self-Healing of Layer-by-Layer Hydrogen-Bonded Films of Linear Synthetic Polyphenols

Raman Hlushko et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of hydrogen-bonded layer-by-layer films composed of linear synthetic polyphenols (lPPh's) and linear poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) with different structures, revealing the significant impact of polyphenol structure on film diffusivity and dynamics. Additionally, the self-healing behavior of P3/PEO films in aqueous environments was found to be robust compared to P2/PEO films.
