Atherogenic index of plasma for non-diabetic, coronary artery disease patients after percutaneous coronary intervention: a prospective study of the long-term outcomes in China

Yitian Zheng et al.

Summary: The study found that non-diabetic coronary artery disease patients have metabolic dysfunction, which is significantly correlated with the Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP) and major adverse cardiac events (MACE). The AIP index could be used for prognostic evaluation in non-diabetic CAD patients, but further research is needed to confirm.

Coronary heart disease risk: Low-density lipoprotein and beyond

Gabriel E. Shaya et al.

Summary: Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of disability and death worldwide, with significant residual risk despite advances in understanding complex interactions among risk factors. Factors such as systemic inflammation, diabetes, high-density lipoprotein, plasma triglycerides, and others may contribute to this residual risk.

Myocardial Geometry and Dysfunction in Morbidly Obese Adolescents (BMI 35-40 kg/m2)

Jose M. Siurana et al.

Summary: This study found that adolescents with morbid obesity exhibit abnormal left ventricular geometry and systolic and diastolic dysfunctions compared to normal-weight adolescents. Factors such as BMI, high blood pressure, hyperglycemia, low HDL-cholesterol, and hypertriglyceridemia are associated with impaired cardiac index. Adolescents labelled as metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) show similar pathological heart changes as those with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) despite better BMI and insulin-resistance values.

Summary: In patients with stable angina, high TG and low HDL-C levels, expressed by the TG/HDL-C ratio, independently predict coronary atherosclerotic disease outcomes. This association is related to various biomarkers, independent of LDL-C levels and treatments.

Impact of 2 different aerobic periodization training protocols on left ventricular function in patients with stable coronary artery disease: an exploratory study

Lukas-Daniel Trachsel et al.

Summary: Linear and nonlinear aerobic training periodizations were compared in coronary artery disease patients, showing similar improvements in 3D LVEF and radial strain without negative impact on cardiac function. This suggests favorable cardiac remodeling through myofibers reorganization and should be further investigated in patients with more severe cardiac dysfunction.

Myocardial strain in hypertension: a meta-analysis of two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiographic studies

Summary: This systematic meta-analysis of left ventricular mechanics in systemic hypertension found that global longitudinal strain (GLS) was significantly impaired in hypertensive patients, suggesting that GLS assessment can detect systolic dysfunction not detected by conventional ejection fraction. Incorporating GLS evaluation into routine work-up may help identify hypertension-mediated cardiac damage.

Multi-trajectories of lipid indices with incident cardiovascular disease, heart failure, and all-cause mortality: 23 years follow-up of two US cohort studies

Fatemeh Koohi et al.

Summary: The study identified seven distinct multi-trajectories of blood lipid levels and found that individuals with rising triglyceride levels over time, even with optimal LDL-C levels, faced a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Despite the decline in LDL-C levels, there remained a considerable residual risk for CVD, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and potentially lowering triglyceride concentrations to reduce this risk.

Improvement in Metabolic Co-Morbidities after Implantation of CardioMEMS in Patients with Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction Phenotype

Amit Alam et al.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of 29 HFpEF patients with CardioMEMS implantation showed that optimizing PADP through hemodynamic monitoring led to improvements in comorbidities related to metabolic syndrome, including obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. However, the effect on glycemic control in diabetic patients was limited. Further studies are needed to validate these findings and determine their clinical significance.
