Cadherin-11-Interleukin-6 Signaling between Cardiac Fibroblast and Cardiomyocyte Promotes Ventricular Remodeling in a Mouse Pressure Overload-Induced Heart Failure Model

Guojian Fang et al.

Summary: Heart failure is a severe and life-threatening disease worldwide. Cadherin-11 (Cad-11) is highly expressed in the heart and associated with inflammation. The study found that Cad-11 is increased in heart failure patients and plays a role in ventricular remodeling. Cad-11 deficiency improved pressure overload-induced structural and electrical remodeling in mice. Furthermore, Cad-11 induces IL-6 secretion from cardiac fibroblasts, which modulates the pathophysiology of neighboring cardiomyocytes.

Cardiac biomarkers in pediatric CKD-a prospective follow-up study

Ylva Tranaeus Lindblad et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the longitudinal levels of cardiac markers NT-proBNP and hs-cTnT in pediatric CKD and CKD-T patients. The study found that these markers were elevated in pediatric CKD and CKD-T patients and were associated with kidney function, cardiovascular risk markers, and echocardiographic parameters.

Lipidomics Revealed Aberrant Lipid Metabolism Caused by Inflammation in Cardiac Tissue in the Early Stage of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in a Murine Model

Jida Zhang et al.

Summary: Cardiac involvement is a common symptom in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and contributes to mortality. The exact pathological mechanism for cardiac involvement in lupus is not well understood. Lipid metabolism abnormalities and inflammation are associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) development. This study quantitatively analyzed cellular lipids in cardiac tissue of lupus-prone mice and found that lipid alterations induced by inflammation were present even before lupus onset, which could further accelerate CVD. Treatment with glucocorticoids (GCs) delayed SLE progression and partially corrected lipid abnormalities. Medications with better anti-inflammatory effects may be useful for treating premature CVD in SLE.

Coronary artery disease in dialysis patients: evidence synthesis, controversies and proposed management strategies

Alexandru Burlacu et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among patients with end-stage renal disease. Current practice in this population is informed by observational data due to the lack of randomized clinical trial evidence, leading to potential bias. Dialysis patients are more likely to be asymptomatic, posing challenges in identifying and managing coronary artery disease accurately.

Myokines and Heart Failure: Challenging Role in Adverse Cardiac Remodeling, Myopathy, and Clinical Outcomes

Alexander E. Berezin et al.

Summary: Heart failure (HF) is a global medical problem with high mortality despite modern treatment approaches. HF-related myopathy, characterized by muscle weakness, myofiber loss, and fibrosis, is a key symptom influencing patients' quality of life. Myokines play a pivotal role in regulating muscle rejuvenation, metabolic homeostasis, and protection against injury and apoptosis, and their levels in peripheral blood could offer insights into HF progression and stratify patients at risk of poor outcomes.

Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus face a high risk of cardiovascular disease: A systematic review and Meta-analysis

Xiaohong Lu et al.

Summary: The systematic review and meta-analysis found that patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to the general or healthy population, and the risk of CVD in lupus nephritis (LN) patients is significantly higher than in SLE patients.
