Mathematical modeling and multi-objective optimization on the rectangular micro-channel heat sink

Xue-shuo Shang et al.

Summary: This study develops a mathematical model of a rectangular microchannel heat sink (MCHS) and derives the thermal resistance using structural parameters based on the differential equation of energy conservation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to validate the model. A multiobjective optimization model is also established to simultaneously minimize the thermal resistance and the pumping power. The mathematical model and the multiobjective optimization method are beneficial for the design of an MCHS owing to the high convenience and reliability.

Performance enhancement in double-layer tapered microchannels by changing the wall hydrophobicity and working fluid

Sajjad Sarvar-Ardeh et al.

Summary: This research numerically investigates the effects of hybrid nanofluid flows, converging channels, and superhydrophobic surfaces in a double-layer microchannel heat sink. The results show that at low Re numbers, the hybrid nanofluid in the superhydrophobic microchannel can reduce thermal resistance, but at high Re numbers, the situation is reversed due to higher temperature jumps at the wall contact surfaces.

Impact of MXene nanoparticle on thermohydraulic performance in a microchannel heat sink: effect of nanoparticle size

Mohamad Nur Hidayat Mat et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of MXene nanoparticles in a microchannel, and evaluates their thermohydraulic performance by varying the nanoparticle size. The results show that MXene nanofluids with a diameter of 20 nm have the lowest thermal resistance and highest heat transfer coefficient at high Reynolds numbers, and only slightly increase the pressure drop.

Effect of Dimpled Rib with Arc Pattern on Hydrothermal Characteristics of Al2O3-H2O Nanofluid Flow in a Square Duct

Anil Kumar et al.

Summary: This study focused on the thermal and hydraulic performance of Al2O3-H2O nanofluid flow in a dimpled rib with an arc pattern in a square duct. The results showed that the nanofluid had higher Nusselt numbers and friction factors compared to pure water. The dimpled ribs in the arc pattern significantly improved the heat transfer rate. The optimum parameters were a nanoparticle concentration of 4.5%, a ratio of dimpled arc rib height to print diameter of 0.933, a relative dimpled arc rib height of 4.64, and a dimpled arc angle of 55 degrees. Correlations for Nusselt number, friction factor, and efficiency factor were developed for the selected range of parameters.

Ayush Prada Dash et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of an extended surface on the heat transfer rate in a microchannel was investigated using computer simulation. A new design of a microchannel heat sink incorporating cylindrical ribs with variable sector angles was analyzed. The results showed that the Nusselt number and THPP parameter varied with the Reynolds number and sector angle. The study provides insights into the performance and optimization of microchannel heat sinks.
