Identification and classification of the flow pattern of hydrogen-air-steam mixture gas under steam condensation

Feng Liu et al.

Summary: This study combines experiments and numerical simulations to investigate the flow patterns of a multi-component gas mixture under various conditions. The formation mechanism of typical flow patterns is revealed and boundary conditions for flow pattern transitions are quantified. An empirical correlation is proposed to classify the flow patterns.

Effect of undercooling on microstructure evolution of Cu based alloys

Xiaolong Xu et al.

Summary: Using the deep undercooling rapid solidification method, Cu based alloy was studied at different undercooling degrees. It was found that grain refinement occurred in both large and small undercooling ranges for the two alloys. EBSD analysis showed that the grain refinement structures differed in grain orientations for large and small undercooling. The refinement mechanisms were dendrite remelting and fragmentation for low undercooling alloy, and stress-induced recrystallization for high undercooling alloy. A sudden drop in grain size near critical undercooling was observed for the high undercooling alloy, providing direct evidence of grain refinement due to recrystallization in non-equilibrium solidification structure.

Numerical investigation of the condensation oscillation mechanism of submerged steam jet with high mass flux

Shilin Song et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigated the fluctuations in the interface and pressure of submerged steam jets. The results showed that interface fluctuation leads to unsteady flow of the gas-liquid interface and the pressure oscillation is closely related to the occurrence frequency of interfacial vapor clusters. The periodic fluctuation of the interface causes the oscillation of flow field pressure due to the compression and expansion waves inside the plume.

Efficacy of porous foam on discharging of phase change material with inclusion of hybrid nanomaterial

M. Sheikholeslami

Summary: The influence of porous media on the solidification of water with hybrid nanoparticles has been simulated in this study. A tree-shaped fin and the impact of radiation were utilized to expedite the process. The hybrid nanomaterial consisted of a mixture of Al2O3 and CuO with a volume fraction of 0.01 for each powder type, making the homogeneous mixture approximation logical. A wiremesh packed approach was used to model the porous foam, and the impact of porosity on the freezing process was analyzed. The temperature equation, including two source terms for radiation and phase changing, was considered, and the Galerkin method was implemented for solving the equations.

A novel approach to prepare graphite nanoplatelets exfoliated by three-roll milling in phenolic resin for low-carbon MgO-C refractories

Mingqiang Liu et al.

Summary: In order to reduce the total carbon content in low carbon steel smelting, it is urgently required to develop nano carbon containing magnesia graphite refractories. In this study, a novel low carbon magnesia-carbon refractory was developed by exfoliating flake graphite in phenolic resin to prepare graphite nanoplatelets, which were then used in MgO-C bricks. The addition of 2 wt. % graphite nanoplatelets and/or graphite nanoplatelets/phenolic resin mixture improved the overall performance of the refractories, including higher strength, better oxidation resistance, and slag corrosion resistance.

Numerical investigation for concentrated photovoltaic solar system in existence of paraffin equipped with MWCNT nanoparticles

M. Sheikholeslami

Summary: In this study, a concentrated PVT system was used to achieve greater electricity and heat saving. The effect of installing fins within the paraffin zone on the system performance was investigated through numerical simulation. The results showed that the configuration with short base arrows achieved the maximum useful heat, and dispersing MWCNT nanoparticles further increased the heat utilization efficiency.

Supercooling of phase change materials: A review

I. Shamseddine et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the applications and cases where supercooling can take place and discusses the factors affecting its occurrence and degree. It also presents the challenges in supercooling modeling and the methods used by researchers to experimentally control supercooling. The unstable and probabilistic nature of supercooling modeling limits the validity of the models to conditions similar to the experiments. Nevertheless, the paper offers guidelines for selecting appropriate experimental parameters and modeling strategies based on the specific objectives of each application.

Improving the phase transition characteristic and latent heat storage efficiency by forming polymer-based shape-stabilized PCM for active latent storage system

Dwi Rahmalina et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the application of form-stabilized phase change material (SSPCM) in active latent heat storage (ALHS) systems. It is found that using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) as supporting materials improves thermal conductivity and supercooling degree of SSPCM. Evaluation using a tube-in-shell heat exchanger shows that composite SSPCM has a lower temperature gradient and higher storage efficiency.

Effect of Dielectric Relaxation of Epoxy Resin on Dielectric Loss of Medium-Frequency Transformer

Zhicheng Wu et al.

Summary: This article investigates the dielectric loss of epoxy resin (EP) in medium-frequency transformers (MFTs) through experiments and simulations. The results show that the addition of anhydride hardeners containing benzene ring or a methyl substituent can reduce the dielectric loss, and the EP cured by methyl nadic anhydride (MeNA) has the lowest dielectric loss. This study provides important insights for the selection of insulating materials in MFTs.

Co-precipitated Ni/Mn shell coated nano Cu-rich core structure: A phase-field study

Yuhong Zhao

Summary: This study investigates the formation paths, diversity patterns, segregation modes, and magnetic effect of Ni/Mn shell-coated Cu-rich particles in Fe-15at. % Cu-1at. %Mn-1at. %Ni alloy using the phase-field method. The research reveals the coexistence of three nucleation mechanisms and the appearance of four structural patterns during precipitation, growth, and coarsening. The Cu-rich nanoparticles transform from bcc-a-Cu to fcc-g-Cu, while the Ni/Mn shell remains bcc and precipitates on the surface of bcc-a-Cu, fcc-g-Cu, or both. The Ni/Mn shell inhibits crystal structure transformation and phase separation. Adjusting aging time, magnetic field, and elastic field conditions can yield different microstructures and mechanical properties.
