Phylogenomics and evolutionary diversification of the subfamily Polygonoideae

Lu-Shui Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the phylogenetic relationships and diversification patterns of economically important species in the subfamily Polygonoideae were investigated. The results revealed well-defined clades and provided insights into the origins and evolutionary patterns of these species. The findings also shed light on the effects of climatic oscillations on the diversification of this subfamily.

The genome of the glasshouse plant noble rhubarb (Rheum nobile) provides a window into alpine adaptation

Tao Feng et al.

Summary: Glasshouse plants have evolved specialized morphology to adapt to intensive UV radiation and low temperature. The glasshouse structure of specialized cauline leaves effectively absorbs UV light and creates an optimal microclimate for reproductive organ development. The genome sequence of Rheum nobile, a flagship glasshouse plant, reveals key genetic network modules related to the morphological transition to specialized glasshouse leaves.

Insights into the plateau adaptation of Salvia castanea by comparative genomic and WGCNA analyses

Ling Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the periderm-like structure in the underground stem of Salvia castanea and explores the molecular evolutionary mechanisms of its adaptation to the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau (QTP). Through morphological observation and full-length transcriptome analysis, the study proposes a trunk-branches developmental model and identifies key transcription factors involved in the high accumulation of secondary metabolites in S. castanea tissues. Comparative genomic analyses reveal the phylogenetic position of S. castanea and the genetic changes associated with its morphogenesis and QTP adaptation.

Enhanced habitat loss of the Himalayan endemic flora driven by warming-forced upslope tree expansion

Xiaoyi Wang et al.

Summary: The realized range limit of trees in the Himalaya varies due to temperature and anthropogenic factors. While trees have reached their thermal treeline in the eastern region, they are absent in the western and central regions. Predictions indicate that trees will migrate upslope by the end of the twenty-first century, leading to a loss of habitats for the endemic flora.

HsfA1d promotes hypocotyl elongation under chilling via enhancing expression of ribosomal protein genes in Arabidopsis

Huimin Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of chilling growth in Arabidopsis thaliana by focusing on the role of HsfA1d in promoting expression of ribosome biogenesis genes. The findings suggest that HsfA1d is a positive regulator of hypocotyl elongation under chilling conditions. It unveils a new pathway that ensures overall protein translation for plant growth in chilling through the expression of ribosomal protein genes.
