Effect of Rythmol (propafenone HCl) administration during pregnancy in Wistar rats

Entsar R. Abd-Allah et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential teratogenic and genotoxic effects of propafenone during rat development. The results showed that propafenone treatment led to adverse effects on fetal development, including decreased weight, implantations and viable fetuses, and increased placental weight. Morphological abnormalities and ossification deficiency were observed in the treatment group, and histopathological changes were found in liver, kidney, and brain tissues of the treated fetuses. Furthermore, propafenone induced DNA damage in examined samples.

Natural Products/Bioactive Compounds as a Source of Anticancer Drugs

Syeda Tasmia Asma et al.

Summary: Cancer is a deadly disease that has seen a significant rise in mortality rates globally. The search for potent anticancer agents has led to a focus on natural sources for novel and effective drugs. Plants and microbial species, chosen based on their composition, ecology, phytochemical, and ethnopharmacological properties, have played a crucial role in producing effective anticancer agents. The clinical development of various plant-derived bioactive compounds against cancer, as well as the conjugation of natural compounds with anti-cancerous drugs, show promise in generating targeted treatment therapies. Awareness from pharmaceutical research studies in this field could lead to alternative drug development strategies that are economical, reliable, and safe to use.

Anti-inflammatory activity and cytotoxicity against ovarian cancer cell lines by amide alkaloids and piperic esters isolated from Piper longum fruits: In vitro assessments and molecular simulation

Nguyen Viet Phong et al.

Summary: Five new compounds were isolated from the fruits of Piper longum L., along with 41 known compounds. The anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities of all isolated compounds were evaluated, and several compounds showed significant activity. Molecular docking simulations revealed the interaction and binding mechanisms of these active metabolites with proteins related to inflammation and cancer.

Anticancer Drugs for Intra-Arterial Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases: In-Vitro Screening after Short Exposure Time

Audrey Fohlen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of different cell lines to 12 cytotoxic agents, finding that idarubicin was the most cytotoxic to most colorectal cancer cell lines, while gemcitabine was most effective for certain cell lines. Interestingly, commonly used cytotoxic agents in the treatment of colorectal liver metastases showed limited cytotoxicity in the tested cell lines.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
