Electrochemical Oxidative Cleavage of Alkynes to Carboxylic Acids

Qingyuan Feng et al.

Summary: A sustainable method for converting terminal alkynes into carboxylic acids is developed using synthetic electrolysis in an undivided cell at room temperature. This protocol, which eliminates the need for transition metal catalysis and stoichiometric chemical oxidants, is compatible with various aryl, heteroaryl, and alkyl alkynes. Mechanistic studies suggest that sodium nitrite plays a triple role as an electrolyte, nitryl radical precursor, and nitrosating reagent.

Heterogeneous manganese-oxide-catalyzed successive cleavage and functionalization of alcohols to access amides and nitriles

Peipei He et al.

Summary: A novel and efficient protocol for the direct synthesis of amides via heterogeneous manganese-oxide-catalyzed successive cleavage and amidation of C-C bonds in alcohols is reported. This method shows high catalytic activity for a wide range of primary and secondary alcohols, as well as model compounds, resulting in the formation of shorter-chain amides.

Metal-Free and Additive-Free Synthesis of Imides and Nitriles from Ketones via Oxidative of C(O)-C Bonds

Xixi Liu et al.

Summary: A biomass-derived carbon catalyst was discovered to be robust for the metal-free and additive-free synthesis of cyclic imides and nitriles from ketones. Experimental data and DFT calculations highlighted the importance of defective sites and surface oxygen-functional groups in the carbon catalyst for this transformation.

An enzyme-mimic single Fe-N3 atom catalyst for the oxidative synthesis of nitriles via C?C bond cleavage strategy

Jingzhong Qin et al.

Summary: In this study, an enzyme-mimic iron single-atom catalyst (SAC) bearing iron (III) nitride (FeN3) motifs was prepared and found to be efficient for cleavage and cyana-tion of carbon-carbon bonds in secondary alcohols and ketones. The catalyst exhibited high enzyme-like activity and selectivity for nitriles.

Photocatalyzed oxidative cleavage of CC bond to carbonyl compounds by a recyclable homogeneous carbon nitride semiconductor/aqueous system

Rui Jia et al.

Summary: In this paper, a UV light-driven, potassium/sodium poly(heptazine imide) (K,Na-PHI)-catalyzed protocol for the selective oxidative cleavage of alkynes to acids is described. Various aromatic alkynes can be successfully cleaved under mild conditions using water as a solvent. The photogenerated hydroxyl radicals are identified as the green oxidation active species.

Highly efficient C(CO)-C(alkyl) bond cleavage in ketones to access esters over ultrathin N-doped carbon nanosheets

Manli Hua et al.

Summary: In this study, porous and ultrathin N-doped carbon nanosheets were designed as heterogeneous metal-free catalysts for the efficient synthesis of methyl esters via oxidative esterification of ketones. The catalysts exhibited excellent performance due to higher content and electron density of graphitic-N species, as well as high surface area providing easily accessed active sites.

Atomic-Level Modulation of Electronic Density at Cobalt Single-Atom Sites Derived from Metal-Organic Frameworks: Enhanced Oxygen Reduction Performance

Yuanjun Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the correlation between atomic configuration induced electronic density of single-atom Co active sites and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) performance. The designed and synthesized Co-1-N3PS/HC catalyst shows outstanding ORR activity in alkaline and acidic media, surpassing Pt/C and most non-precious ORR electrocatalysts. Insights from this work promote rational design of efficient catalysts.
