Metasurface-based polarization color routers

Xiujuan Zou et al.

Summary: Polarization imaging is highly useful in various applications and a compact metasurface-based polarization color router has been designed and realized. This device shows a micron Bayer pattern under white light illumination with any polarization and can act as a polarizer. The measured light utilization efficiency reaches 88% and the correlation coefficient between measured and theoretical illuminating light polarization angles is 0.98. This lightweight device with high light utilization efficiency and polarization-integrated detection functions provides a new way for integrated CMOS image sensor applications.

Summary: In this study, a simple one-dimensional structure is introduced in the design of one-dimensional color splitters (1D-CSs) for color imaging. A single-to-double-layer design is proposed for 1D-CSs. Utilizing inverse design metasurfaces, high full-color efficiency is achieved. The performance of the double-layer 1D-CSs is evaluated in terms of incident angle sensitivity, polarization angle sensitivity, and assembly tolerance, demonstrating its application value.
