Binary Solvent System Used to Fabricate Fully Annealing-Free Perovskite Solar Cells

Elena J. J. Cassella et al.

Summary: Solvent-engineered deposition of high crystalline perovskite thin-films at room temperature using gas-quenching method has been achieved, leading to the fabrication of annealing-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with stabilized power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) up to 18.0%. Self-assembled molecules have been used as the hole-transporting layer, further improving the stabilized PCEs of annealing-free devices to 17.1%. This study provides a new approach for large-scale production of annealing-free PSCs.

Gas-Assisted Spray Coating of Perovskite Solar Cells Incorporating Sprayed Self-Assembled Monolayers

Elena J. Cassella et al.

Summary: Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are widely used as hole-selective layers in perovskite solar cells. Ultrasonic spray coating and airbrush coating are effective methods for depositing carbazole-based SAMs. Solvent rinsing protocols overcome the dewetting issue of hybrid perovskite precursor solutions. Air-knife gas-quenching is used to remove volatile solvents, allowing fabrication of high-efficiency p-i-n devices with large-area roll-to-roll manufacturing.

Defects and stability of perovskite solar cells: a critical analysis

Leiping Duan et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskite solar cells have achieved power conversion efficiencies exceeding 25.5%, similar to silicon solar cells, but their stability remains a challenge for commercialization due to degradation from external factors. Encapsulation can suppress degradation from oxygen and moisture, however, light and heat-induced degradation are still issues that need to be addressed for improved stability.

Critical Role of Perovskite Film Stoichiometry in Determining Solar Cell Operational Stability: a Study on the Effects of Volatile A-Cation Additives

Wenya Song et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of volatile A-cation halide additives on the stoichiometry, performance, and stability of perovskite films in solar cells. The results show that over annealing of formamidinium chloride-containing perovskite films leads to a Pb-rich surface, resulting in a high initial efficiency but decays during maximum power point tracking (MPPT). On the other hand, perovskite films obtained by a shorter annealing time at the same temperature provide good stability during MPPT but a lower initial efficiency. Therefore, optimal annealing conditions are crucial for both high efficiency and operational stability in perovskite solar cells.

Impact of Russian-Ukraine war on clean energy, conventional energy, and metal markets: Evidence from event study approach

Muhammad Umar et al.

Summary: This article discusses the impact of the Russian-Ukraine war on the metals, conventional energy, and renewable energy markets. The event research technique used in this study shows a significant increase in abnormal returns associated with the renewable energy industry. Other than the gas oil index, conventional energy and metals markets do not show large abnormal returns on the event day. Europe was one of the first clean energy markets to react to the war. The impact was highest on the t+1 day, unlike in other markets. War had a significant influence on gold, platinum, palladium, and nickel, among other metals.

Perovskite solar cells with atomically coherent interlayers on SnO2 electrodes

Hanul Min et al.

Summary: By introducing an interlayer between the electron-transporting and perovskite layers in perovskite solar cells, researchers have successfully enhanced charge extraction and transport from the perovskite, leading to higher power conversion efficiency and fewer interfacial defects. The coherent interlayer allowed the fabrication of devices with a certified efficiency of 25.5%, which maintained about 90% of its initial efficiency even after continuous light exposure for 500 hours. The findings provide guidelines for designing defect-minimizing interfaces in metal halide perovskites and electron-transporting layers.
