Morphological and multigene phylogenetic analyses reveal two new nematode- trapping fungi (Arthrobotrys, Orbiliaceae) from Yunnan, China

Yao-Quan Yang et al.

Summary: During the investigation of nematode-trapping fungi in Yunnan Province, two new Arthrobotrys species were identified based on morphology and multigene phylogenetic analysis. Arthrobotrys gongshanensis is characterized by conidiophores producing short denticles near the apex, bearing a single conidium on each denticle, and obovoid to fusiform, 1-4-septate conidia. Arthrobotrys luzhangensis is characterized by its obovoid to fusiform, 1-4-septate macroconidia, and clavate or obovoid, aseptate microconidia. These two new species both capture nematodes using adhesive networks. The taxonomic positions of these species within Arthrobotrys were confirmed by multigene phylogenetic analysis.

Drechslerella daliensis and D. xiaguanensis (Orbiliales, Orbiliaceae), two new nematode-trapping fungi from Yunnan, China

Fa Zhang et al.

Summary: Nematode-trapping fungi are highly specialized fungi that play an essential role in regulating natural nematode populations. This study identified two new nematode-trapping species in Orbiliaceae from burned forest soil in Yunnan, China, through multigene phylogenetic analysis and morphological characterization. These findings contribute to the understanding of carnivorous fungi.

Two new nematode-trapping fungi (Arthrobotrys, Orbiliaceae) from Yunnan, China

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, two new species, Arthrobotrys jindingensis and A. tongdianensis, isolated from freshwater sediment and terrestrial soil in Lanping county, Yunnan, China, were introduced based on morphology and multi-locus phylogenetic analysis. The phylogenetic analysis provides strong support for them as two new species within the genus Arthrobotrys. Descriptions and illustrations of these two species are provided in this paper.
