Impact of Beauveria bassiana on antioxidant enzyme activities and metabolomic profiles of Spodoptera frugiperda

Summary: This study assessed the changes in antioxidant enzyme activities and metabolomic profile in S. frugiperda larvae infected with B. bassiana. The results showed an initial increase and subsequent decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes in the infected larvae. A total of 93 differential metabolites were identified, with 41 up-regulated and 52 down-regulated. Further analysis revealed that B. bassiana infection affected key metabolic pathways in S. frugiperda larvae.

Bacillus symbiont drives alterations in intestinal microbiota and circulating metabolites of lepidopteran host

Summary: The symbiotic association between bacterial symbionts and insect hosts was studied using a silkworm model. The results showed that the symbiotic Bacillus subtilis can produce various metabolites to provide nutrients and enhance the pathogen resistance of the insect host. The changes in intestinal microbiota and circulating metabolites in the insect hemolymph were correlated. The bacterial symbiont can alter the physiological state of insects and the compositional alterations of intestinal microbiota are important sources of variation in circulating metabolites of insect hosts.

Susceptibility to Chlorantraniliprole in Fall Armyworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Populations Infesting Sweet Corn in Southern Florida

Summary: The susceptibility of fall armyworm populations to chlorantraniliprole in sweet corn fields in southern Florida between 2017 and 2019 varied to a small extent, with approximately fourfold differences in LC50 and LC90 values. These field populations showed reduced susceptibility compared to a reference laboratory population. However, field experiments demonstrated that foliar applications of chlorantraniliprole effectively reduced injury and infestations by fall armyworm in sweet corn fields, comparable to or lower than other insecticides. Therefore, there is currently no evidence of practical resistance to chlorantraniliprole in fall armyworm infesting Florida sweet corn fields.
