Differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions using diffusion-weighted imaging with a fractional-order calculus model

Chunhong Wang et al.

Summary: The feasibility of using three diffusion parameters derived from fractional-order calculus diffusion model in differentiating benign and malignant breast lesions was assessed in this study. Results showed significant differences between ADC and FROC parameters in benign and malignant lesions. A comprehensive prediction model was created and ROC curve analysis revealed improved performance in differentiating benign and malignant lesions compared to individual parameters.

Yunfei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used restricted spectrum imaging (RSI) to noninvasively identify microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and established a nomogram-based model to predict MVI. The results showed that RSI-derived metrics can be used to efficiently identify MVI in HCC, with potential for prognostic prediction and clinical management.

A three-component multi-b-value diffusion-weighted imaging might be a useful biomarker for detecting microstructural features in gliomas with differences in malignancy and IDH-1 mutation status

Mengqiu Cao et al.

Summary: This study explored the performance of a three-component diffusion model in evaluating the degree of malignancy and IDH-1 gene type of gliomas. The results showed that the three-component DWI model can serve as a useful biomarker for detecting microstructural features in gliomas with different grades and IDH-1 mutation statuses.

Staging Chronic Hepatitis B Related Liver Fibrosis with a Fractional Order Calculus Diffusion Model

Ruofan Sheng et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical potential of the non-Gaussian fractional order calculus diffusion model in staging liver fibrosis. The diffusion coefficient, fractional order parameter, and apparent diffusion coefficient were found to be significantly correlated with fibrosis stages. The combined DWI-derived index offered the best diagnostic efficacy for fibrosis evaluation. This study highlights the importance of accurately staging liver fibrosis and suggests a reliable tool for its assessment.

Differentiating Cytokeratin 19 expression of hepatocellular carcinoma by using multi-b-value diffusion-weighted MR imaging with mono-exponential, stretched exponential, intravoxel incoherent motion, diffusion kurtosis imaging and fractional order calculus models

Yixian Guo et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the predictive performance of various diffusion parameters for Cytokeratin 19 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ADC, DDC, D-t, D-p, D, and beta were identified as noninvasive imaging markers for accurately assessing the CK19 status of HCC. The combination of different diffusion parameters showed improved diagnostic performance.

The Roles of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging and Intravoxel Incoherent Motion Diffusion-Weighted Imaging Parameters in Preoperative Evaluation of Pathological Grades and Microvascular Invasion in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the predictive power of diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM)-diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) parameters for pathological grades and microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was investigated and compared. The results showed that certain parameters had high sensitivity and specificity in the preoperative prediction of HCC pathological grades and MVI. Additionally, MD and D values had superior diagnostic efficacy in predicting HCC grades, while D value outperformed other parameters in predicting MVI+ in HCC.

An optimized b-value distribution for triexponential intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) in the liver

Andreas Riexinger et al.

Summary: The study aimed to find an optimized b-value distribution for reproducible triexponential IVIM exams in the liver. The optimized b-value distribution resulted in higher fit stability compared to distributions used in literature, both in simulation and in vivo measurements. Using more than 6 b-values, ideally 16 or more, increased fit stability considerably in triexponential IVIM exams.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Evidence of Tri-Exponential Decay for Liver Intravoxel Incoherent Motion MRI: A Review of Published Results and Limitations

Olivier Chevallier et al.

Summary: Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) are used to assess liver tumors and diffused liver diseases. IVIM can assess molecular diffusion of water and microcirculation of blood, but high variance in D-fast estimates restricts its application in clinical practice for liver IVIM. Further research on a tri-exponential model may be more suitable to describe the DWI signal for liver IVIM.
