Summary: In this study, CNT film prepreg was prepared and used to fabricate interlayer stiffened and reinforced CFRP composites with enhanced compressive strength. The effect of CNT film prepreg on the longitudinal compressive strength and elastic-plastic failure mechanism of the composites was investigated.

Summary: The concept of post-tensioned glass systems has been studied to reduce the unpredictable response of structural glass in tension. Fe-SMA strips have been successfully used to strengthen existing structures due to their advantages over conventional reinforcement materials. This research investigates the feasibility of post-tensioning glass beams using externally bonded activated Fe-SMA strips. Flexural tests show that reinforcing glass beams with passive or activated Fe-SMA strips can achieve ductile failure modes, with activation resulting in a 30% increase in cracking load.

Summary: With the advancement of composite processing technology, three-dimensional braided composites have become widely used in various high-tech industries due to their excellent mechanical properties. Accurately estimating the effective mechanical properties of braided performs is crucial for optimizing their performance. Using a multiphase finite element method within an asymptotic expansion homogenization framework allows successful prediction of the mechanical properties of three-dimensional braided composites, showing good agreement with experimental results.

Summary: This study successfully developed CF/PEEK-to-aluminium joints with excellent fracture resistance by treating the bonding surfaces of CF/PEEK composites with a high-power UV-irradiation technique. The results showed that cohesive failure within the adhesive layers or substrate damage to the CF/PEEK composites did not occur, indicating a strong adhesion between CF/PEEK composites and adhesives to prevent adhesive failure under different fracture modes.

Summary: In this study, a three-dimensional numerical model was developed to investigate crack propagation and meshing characteristics in planetary gear trains. The results show that crack closure effect affects meshing stiffness and contact pressure, and the backup ratio of the ring gear has a more significant influence on meshing stiffness compared to tooth cracks.

Summary: The goal of this investigation is to study low velocity impacts in hybrid composite plates made by polymer matrix and glass fibers reinforced with Shape Memory Alloy (SMA). A multiscale approach is used to evaluate the influence of fiber volume fraction, SMA thickness, and SMA attachment in the laminate. The results show that the inclusion of SMA can significantly reduce the damage caused by impacts under certain conditions.

Summary: Z-pin pull-out tests were conducted to investigate the meso interface structure and debonding position of the z-pin/laminate system. The results revealed that the interface consisted of two meso interface components, with debonding occurring at the weaker one. The z-pin with better molding quality exhibited higher interfacial bond shear stress and debonding primarily occurred at Interface I, while the z-pin with poorer molding quality had lower interfacial bond shear stress and debonding mainly occurred at Interface II. However, this type of z-pin showed higher resistance at the final frictional pull-out stage.
