Deliveries Among Patients With Maternal Hepatitis C Virus Infection in the United States, 2000-2019

Brittany Arditi et al.

Summary: This study assessed the clinical characteristics, trends, and outcomes of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection during pregnancy. The prevalence of HCV infection diagnosed during pregnancy has increased significantly over the study period, along with the increase in clinical characteristics associated with HCV infection. HCV infection was found to be associated with increased risks of severe maternal morbidity, preterm birth, and cesarean delivery.

Hepatitis C is associated with more adverse pregnancy outcomes than hepatitis B: A 7-year national inpatient sample study

Bing Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and trends of adverse pregnancy outcomes in pregnant women with chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and chronic hepatitis C (HCV) using a national database. The results showed that pregnant women with HBV had a higher risk of gestational diabetes, while those with HCV had a higher risk of preterm labor, intrauterine growth restriction, longer hospital stays, and higher hospitalization costs.

Pragmatic Experience with Risk-based versus Universal Hepatitis C Screening in Pregnancy: Detection of Infection and Postpartum Linkage to Care

Elisa T. Bushman et al.

Summary: The study found that universal HCV screening in pregnancy identified more HCV-positive women compared to risk-based screening. However, the rates of postpartum follow-up and treatment for HCV were low regardless of the screening modality, highlighting the need for further research to address barriers to postpartum care.

Association of Individual and Community Factors With Hepatitis C Infections Among Pregnant People and Newborns

Stephen W. Patrick et al.

Summary: The opioid crisis has significantly impacted pregnant individuals and newborns, with a rise in Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. This study found that White and American Indian/Alaska Native individuals without a 4-year college degree had the highest risk of HCV infection, and higher levels of county employment helped mitigate the increase in HCV infections among high-risk individuals.

Enhancing Linkage to Hepatitis C Virus Treatment Following Pregnancy in Women Identified During Perinatal Care

Rachel L. Epstein et al.

Summary: Under the intervention of maternal-infant HCV linkage program and colocated care, the rates of HCV linkage to care and treatment have improved. Perinatal care could play a critical role in identifying, linking, and treating women for HCV infection to enhance their health and prevent transmission to subsequent pregnancies.
