Subsystem selection for digital twin development: A case study on an unmanned underwater vehicle

Demetrious T. Kutzke et al.

Summary: Digital twins are virtual representations of subsystems within a system, used to model and predict performance and degradation. Selecting subsystems for digital twins is challenging, but a generic process has been established to prioritize system components for increasing system reliability. The process focuses on an unmanned underwater vehicle as a case study for multiobjective optimization.

Joint Computation Offloading and Radio Resource Allocation in MEC-Based Wireless-Powered Backscatter Communication Networks

Yongjun Xu et al.

Summary: The MEC-based WP-BackComNets enable WDs to offload computation resources to MEC servers, but the limited battery capacity of WDs is a bottleneck for its development. To address this issue, a joint computation offloading and radio resource allocation problem is formulated to minimize the total energy consumption of WDs by optimizing various parameters.

Path Planning for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles Under the Influence of Ocean Currents Based on a Fusion Heuristic Algorithm

Jiabao Wen et al.

Summary: Research on path planning for AUVs has rapidly progressed, with traditional heuristic algorithms facing issues of slow convergence speed and premature convergence. To address these problems, a new heuristic algorithm combining genetic, ant colony optimization, and simulated annealing algorithms is proposed, alongside additional techniques to accelerate convergence and expand search space. The advantages of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated through simulated comparative experiments, along with the introduction of ocean current and kinematics models for AUV path planning under the influence of ocean currents.

Toward Intelligent Cooperation of UAV Swarms: When Machine Learning Meets Digital Twin

Lei Lei et al.

Summary: Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm has high mobility and low cost, but the complex characteristics of intelligent cooperation restrict its wide application. The recent development of artificial intelligence provides new methods, but they are resource-intensive and cannot be directly applied to constrained UAVs. This article proposes a digital twin-based intelligent cooperation framework for UAV swarm, with a case study on intelligent network reconstruction and simulation results to demonstrate its effectiveness.
