Advances in the Synthesis of Halide Perovskite Single Crystals for Optoelectronic Applications

Jiakai Yan et al.

Summary: Perovskite materials have garnered significant attention for their applications in optoelectronics such as solar cells, LEDs, and photodetectors. Single crystal perovskites, with their absence of grain boundaries and lower defect density, exhibit enhanced performance and stability in optoelectronic devices. Additionally, single crystal nanostructures serve as ideal models for studying the fundamental properties of functional materials. This review comprehensively discusses the theories of crystal nucleation and growth, explores the formation of perovskite crystals, and summarizes recent advancements in their application across various optoelectronic devices.

Exploring Nanoscale Structure in Perovskite Precursor Solutions Using Neutron and Light Scattering

Mary E. O'Kane et al.

Summary: Tailoring the solution chemistry of metal halide perovskites requires understanding precursor aggregation and coordination. In this study, various scattering techniques were used to investigate the nanostructures in two different lead-halide perovskite solution inks. It was found that DLS can misrepresent the size distribution of the colloidal dispersion, while SANS/SESANS confirmed that these solutions mainly consist of 1-2 nm-sized particles.

Deterministic fabrication of 3D/2D perovskite bilayer stacks for durable and efficient solar cells

Siraj Sidhik et al.

Summary: Realizing solution-processed heterostructures in halide perovskites is a long-standing challenge due to solvent incompatibilities. However, by utilizing the solvent dielectric constant and Gutmann donor number, it is possible to grow phase-pure two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskite stacks with desired composition, thickness, and bandgap onto 3D perovskites without dissolving the underlying substrate. The thickness dependence of the 2D perovskite layer shows expected trends for different device architectures, indicating the influence of band alignment and carrier transport limits.
