Kindlin-2 inhibits Nlrp3 inflammasome activation in nucleus pulposus to maintain homeostasis of the intervertebral disc

Sheng Chen et al.

Summary: This study reveals that Kindlin-2 plays a critical role in inhibiting Nlrp3 inflammasome activation and maintaining the integrity of intervertebral disc homeostasis. Loss of Kindlin-2 leads to intervertebral disc degeneration, cell apoptosis, and extracellular matrix catabolism. Abnormal mechanical stress exacerbates the progression of intervertebral disc degeneration. Blocking Nlrp3 inflammasome activation and overexpression of Kindlin-2 can prevent and treat intervertebral disc degeneration.
