Blade-Coated Carbon Electrode Perovskite Solar Cells to Exceed 20% Efficiency Through Protective Buffer Layers

Yaqing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, an organic/inorganic double planar hole transport layer (HTL) is constructed, which achieves a cascade type-II energy level alignment at the perovskite/HTL interfaces and a preferential ohmic contact at NiOx/carbon electrode. This design greatly enhances charge collection while suppressing charge transfer recombination in perovskite solar cells with carbon electrode. Additionally, the planar composite protects perovskite from being corroded by carbon paste, enabling a robust interfacial contact and achieving high efficiency.

Improved Thermal Stability and Film Uniformity of Halide Perovskite by Confinement Effect brought by Polymer Chains of Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone

Shuyue Wu et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) is doped into the growth process of halide perovskite, and it interacts with PbI2 and organic salt to inhibit their aggregation and crystallization. The doping of PVP leads to a decrease in crystallite size, surface fluctuation, and roughness, resulting in a compact and uniform perovskite film. The power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells is improved due to the confinement effect, which also enhances the thermal stability of the film and device.

Improved Crystallization of Lead Halide Perovskite in Two-Step Growth Method by Polymer-Assisted Slow-Release Effect

Siyuan Lin et al.

Summary: Blending polyacrylic acid with organic salt can regulate the crystallization process and slow down the reaction rate between organic salt and PbI2, improving the crystallization of perovskite. The addition of polyacrylic acid increases the crystallite size and grain size of perovskite. By reducing trap density and charge recombination, the charge carrier lifetime in perovskite film and devices is prolonged, leading to an increase in power conversion efficiency of the device.

Ion-Diffusion Management Enables All-Interface Defect Passivation of Perovskite Solar Cells

Lina Shen et al.

Summary: Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with over 25% power conversion efficiency have been achieved through efficient surface passivation. However, current post-treatment strategies can only repair the defects at the top interface. In this study, an ion-diffusion management strategy is proposed to simultaneously modulate the top interfaces, buried interfaces, and bulk interfaces of the perovskite film, achieving passivation of all interface defects. By using double interactive salts of octylammonium iodide (OAI) and guanidinium chloride (GACl) on the 3D perovskite surface, the diffusion of ions can be controlled, resulting in a dimensionally broadened 2D capping layer. This approach leads to the formation of n-inter-i-inter-p five-layer structured PSCs with a champion PCE of 25.43% (certified 24.4%), and improved operational stability of perovskite solar cells.

Pure Chloride 2D/3D Heterostructure Passivation for Efficient and Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

Li Tan et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have shown great potential in industrial commercialization, reaching a certified efficiency of 25.7%. However, defects at the surface and grain boundaries currently limit their device performance and long-term stability. In this study, long-chain dodecylammonium halides (DACl, DABr, and DAI) are introduced to treat the perovskite surface and enhance device performance. It is found that the DACl-treated PSCs achieve a champion power conversion efficiency of 23.91% and maintain around 95% of their initial efficiency after 1000 hours of storage under specific conditions.

Summary: Realizing solution-processed heterostructures in halide perovskites is a long-standing challenge due to solvent incompatibilities. However, by utilizing the solvent dielectric constant and Gutmann donor number, it is possible to grow phase-pure two-dimensional (2D) halide perovskite stacks with desired composition, thickness, and bandgap onto 3D perovskites without dissolving the underlying substrate. The thickness dependence of the 2D perovskite layer shows expected trends for different device architectures, indicating the influence of band alignment and carrier transport limits.
