Photoactive materials and devices for energy-efficient soft wearable optoelectronic systems

Sangkyu Lee et al.

Summary: This article mainly introduces some new photoactive materials and their applications in wearable optoelectronic devices. Traditional inorganic photoactive materials face challenges due to their rigidity and bulkiness, while emerging photoactive materials have the advantages of being ultra-lightweight, ultrathin, and flexible, and can be used on curved surfaces. In order to improve the stretchability of optoelectronic devices, various mechanical designs and new material strategies have been used. By removing serpentine interconnects and using polymers with high impact resistance, low glass transition temperature, and dynamically crosslinked bonds, the density and electrical/mechanical reliability of the devices can be improved. In conclusion, these methods are essential for making current flexible photoactive devices inherently and durably stretchable.

Dewetting-Assisted Patterning of Organic Semiconductors for Micro-OLED Arrays with a Pixel Size of 1 μm

Xiaojie Zhou et al.

Summary: The emergence of near-eye displays has increased the demand for highly enhanced display resolution. High-resolution micro-displays using micro-organic light-emitting diodes (micro-OLEDs) are a preferred candidate due to the advantages of OLEDs, such as flexibility, light weight, and ease of processing. Researchers have demonstrated a solution-processing approach to pattern organic semiconductors (OSCs) for micro-OLED arrays, achieving pixel sizes as small as 1 µm. This method offers a potential avenue for cost-effective manufacturing of flexible and high-resolution micro-displays.
